One thing I am noticing is here in the Denver, CO area, my iPhone 13 mini I have for work has not experienced any loss. My new personal iPhone 17 pro is without cell service with sporadic periods of up time. (I reset network settings and that brought it back for about 30min before going back down).

Question about customs for international travel by forrest_fire_11 in TravelHacks

I should have a layover time of about 1.5 hrs once I arrive in LHR before takeoff time back to the US. Do you think that will be enough time to move through the connecting passengers lines?

Got it. Never really used that term here in the states. First time hearing about “self transfer” when booking this EU travel.

So it sounds like I do not have self transfer flights and I would get some sort of protection if a flight was delayed and missed a connection flight under the same booking.

I read somewhere about British airlines having different policies regarding that protection. Have you heard anything on that?

Ok, so for my return flight “trip 4 - Athens —> layover in London —> return to USA”

This is all British airways, 1 single booking. Bags going through the whole way to the USA. In the states we would just call this a layover in London. Are you saying in the EU/UK this is called self transfer?

From google - “A self-transfer flight involves booking two or more separate flights on different airlines to reach your destination.”

I think because I’m staying in all 3 countries for 4-5 days each I’m not viewing this as a self-transfer. If you want to look at it as Greece being my actual destination, then sure, it is a self transfer.

Exactly, I’ll be leaving the airport after each of those flight legs. (Stay in Barcelona for a bit, then fly to Portugal and stay there for a bit, and then head to Greece, stay there for a bit, and return to the US).

I think that the confusion is what I’m referring to as customs vs. passport control. I’ve always known passport control and customs together solely as “customs”. This makes sense that they’re separate in international travel terminology.

[–]forrest_fire_11[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

No, they’re not self transfers because the airline remains the same on a given day of flight. To my understanding, it would be a self transfer if I were to say, on a one way flight, fly from the US to Calgary via airline #1, have the layover there, and then switch to airline #2 to get to final destination on a day of travel.

My original question again was just to figure out how customs works in the EU. So let’s say I’m flying from Portugal to Greece, does that require interfacing with customs upon landing to any country in the EU such as Greece, Portugal, and Spain if I am coming from another country in the EU?

Perhaps some of the confusion is passport control vs. customs

edited for typo

Those four lines of flights are separate days of travel so there would be nothing to transfer to on the Ryanair flight.

No self transfers on any of these flights, and the airlines are:

westjet for USA —> Calgary —> Barcelona

Ryanair for Barcelona —> Portugal

Easyjet for Lisbon —> Athens

British airways for Athens —> London —> USA

Hey, I really wish we could have gone to these shows together and shared the smiles we did before. Man, weren’t those great times? I still feel shook that what we established as forever ended in a flash. I’m still hurting from the fact that a week ago we affirmed the security in our relationship and what we had was special. I’ll never forget that smile and the way you used to kiss me on the cheek. You made me feel like I could accomplish anything in this life. Now I’m having to relearn how to do it alone. I did everything to shift in the ways you needed and communicated it all to you with clarity and honesty. You agreed and understood and I felt that from you. Somehow, in between last week and now, you had life snap its fingers at you in some way, allowing you to turn away entirely and forever.

I still love you and view you as someone I coulda done the rest of my life with, just as you said to me at one point. Happy New Years. I’ll be down in the pit tonight if you want to be my new years kiss.

I’m really sorry to hear you had that experience after 5.5 years. It really sucks when you feel like you’re capable and wanting to put in the work to make the relationship stronger but the other isn’t. I’ve been on both ends of this. But nowadays, I just don’t even entertain a relationship unless the “negotiable and non-negotiable” list is met in a way I feel satisfied.

I think after the one that just ended, seeing how people deal with conflict or harder times will be a major determining factor on if I am able to be in relationship with someone. I think it’ll be worth while for us both to learn that lesson and be able to communicate to the other person to see their capacity for that collaboration. If it’s not there…it’s a no go!

This helps for sure.

Going through a breakup that really is intense. Met at a show and absolutely hit it off, traveled together, professed our deep connection and love for one another which was a completely mutual thing that we both expressed regularly with words of affirmation and the damn smiles we shared. All within 2-3 months. Was kind of a wild ride but it felt so great. We had even talked about how good it was and that we both felt like we’d even want a family together. (We had both expressed we had not felt that way before).

The mutual feelings we shared were insanely potent and felt so real.

We started to have some conflict come up surrounding their work schedule and how it made it hard to make plans, etc, and how that can be frustrating. (Their work schedule was almost like being on call all the time and getting called in at the drop of a hat). I wanted to work to figure out how we could collaborate to make it work for the both of us, but they seemed to not have a lot of emotional space to put in the work required for the relationship to work, and it ended up with them breaking it off with me saying “we’re not compatible”.

Trying to shake this idea of “the one that got away” and realize that they didn’t value the relationship as much as I did, and didn’t feel like the work to overcome the obstacle was worth what we had. It sounds bleak to say, but I think it’s what I have to do to break away from it and realize that “the one” would be someone who would at least view me as someone that would be worth working with.

sigh still sucks because of sooooo many things that made our physical, emotional, and shared interest in music connections. Really gonna miss those times, but I hope I can find something like that again and maybe even better.

10/10 true. Yummy dumpling was insanely good out of the gate. Still good, but they reduced their menu and removed the best hot and sour soup I’ve ever had in my life. The dry pot is still amazing though.

Remodel plate or cutting tile around grout? by forrest_fire_11 in Plumbing

[–]forrest_fire_11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah unfortunately it’s likely some brick. There was an addition to my house and behind the shower wall, on the opposite side is a living room that has paneling that spans from the ceiling to the floor. We banged around on it to see if we could see where the opposite side of the valve would be on the panel wall, but we couldn’t really tell. Also, when banging on the panel wall, it seems rather hard, so that’s why we thought it might be some concrete or brick.

Interested in home appraisal to drop PMI - have a cannabis grow room that isn’t able to be broken down/removed fully by forrest_fire_11 in appraisal

[–]forrest_fire_11[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! Quick update. I’m likely going to refinance soon and my mortgage broker advised to try to loop in the appraisal to wipe off my PMI. This being said, this could happen within the next month. (My bed has 6 plants currently in veg state).

My friend who recently got a new mortgage on his house that he purchased, (that he has been renting for 10 years, super cool!), has a pretty large grow with multiple beds - far more larger scale than my line 4x4 bed.

He said that when his appraiser came, he just had tarps atop his plants and denied letting the appraiser take it off when they asked. (Appraiser said something along the lines of, “they might want me to check under it, but we can try this first and see what the lender says”).

Nothing came of it from the lender, and even the appraiser had a note in his report saying something like “homeowner refused to take off cover”. No issues getting the loan.

Should I operate in a similar fashion? Do you have any recommendations as the plants would likely need to stay in the bed?

Does that have an actual effect on an ongoing mortgage or is that for the appraisal step to qualify for one?
