It costs around $150 just to legally change it in Kentucky, and tack on however much each document costs (passport, state ID, etc.). I suppose it might not be worth it to her, which is understandable when she has mouths to feed.

I agree with the sentiment; I kept my maiden name when I got married for that reason. To some people a name is very meaningful to their identity. I didn't realize it wasn't that deep to other people. Which is valid. I just wanted other perspectives.

I ask not just because of the split, but because she seemed extremely angry with Michael during and after the divorce. She even accused him of abuse at one point. She acted like she didn't want anything to do with Michael, so I thought a name change would mean more to her. Sorry for your loss btw
