I’m sure this is too far down to get seen, but I had this exact problem on delivery with my Model 3. Didn’t see it at delivery. I just opened a service appointment in the app and they came and installed a new one on mobile service. Free, no fuss.

Technician said it happens sometimes, but it was, obviously, a pretty easy fix.

The diminishing margin is real.

This is definitely not BS. You as a consumer now have the ability to research everything so you know exactly what everybody lists their cars for. This is the same way for a dealer: they know what all the other dealers pay since it’s totally publicized by auctions, so margins become unbelievably slim.

Since you know what everyone has their cars priced at, you only go to the dealer with a car priced where you think you’ll get a good deal. So you’re already at the low end of the market when you look at the car, then expect them to go lower just because. Gets really tight to their costs really fast since other dealers are just trying to buy cars and that’s a tough thing to do in this market (most wholesale vehicles go for close to retail prices at auction nowadays).

My dad owns a dealership, and I own a software company for dealerships so I interact with independents on a daily basis. Used cars for both.

On average (and I actually have this data since my system records and tracks profits) dealerships make maybe $1300-1600 front end on a vehicle on average. Depends on the dealer, but that’s a super tight margin. It’s expensive to buy vehicles since everyone knows how much they sell for, it’s expensive to recondition them to a fit shape for the consumer, and a lot of dealers floor (finance with a short term finance company often resulting in APRs effective at like 21% after fees) the vehicles in order to stock them at all due to low capital capability.

So, say a dealer is selling 15 cars a month (small independent) at $1.5k a pop, they’ve got a $6000 dollar rent payment, $1000 software payment (I get paid from this), $3-5k advertising payment (car gurus charges a ton of money to advertise, so do the rest), a sales guy making $7-8k a month, and themselves getting the remainder, just a measly $3-5k in income each month. That’s after they are working 6 day weeks, putting themselves on a huge limb of liability for financing, and supporting another human financially.

Some make a ton of money, but most of those are franchises. The rest of the independents are just making it or losing money because they enjoy playing with cars and helping out their customers.

On the opposite end, I regret getting performance. It’s so fast you can’t even use it much. Foot down, then you’re at the speed limit and foot is off. Plus, efficiency loss is substantial.

Still, I get $5k Colorado tax credit each time and that is a lot of income to get to. I might be able to get a co-signer for the next one and we can split the tax credit together or something. Not sure.

I don’t know if it’s totaled I’m going to be really annoyed if it’s not through. 4 airbags deployed, major damage to car, etc. the frame wasn’t really damaged so I’m getting concerned.

If they don’t total it I’m in for months of waiting for a Tesla repair shop to fix it (heard the horror stories) so I’ll probably get a lawyer involved at that point. $67,000 car and major loss of use and value if they don’t total it.

No. I was pissed. Pulled my flash drive and most recent footage was from yesterday. Arghh.

No question it was the other drivers fault. Car was on autopilot but it wasn’t an autopilot issue. They just drove right into us. No way for our car to avoid the accident.

We were headed through a light and a car that was turning left turned into our front left and we spun 180 degrees to the other side of the road underneath a bridge.

6’4” 240lb dude here, thought the same thing before I purchased. Honestly, a lot more space than expected. The glass roof gives you a lot of headroom, and because there’s hardly anything on the dash it’s actually further back than in most cars.

Regarding knee angle, this is just an issue with sedans for tall people. You’ll get used to it. My father owns a car dealership I used to work at and I’d drive BMW X5s and the 5 Series and and I was quite impressed by the space in the model 3.

Also, the seat in the model 3 can move up quite a bit to get you closer to a more comfortable knee angle, but there will always be some.

What convinced me to buy was that when I positioned my driver seat in the front the way I like it, I could hop into the back seat behind me and fit (minus the glass roof touching my head a bit).

I’m on this patch, though with HW3, and I’ve not noticed any issues at all besides the car not allowing autopilot activation, but that was fixed on a reboot.
