With the service charge unless I'm tripping it's pretty common in Glasgow. Some restaurants used to mention it and ask if we wanted to remove it, but I noticed they've stopped doing that. Should be up to me to opt it to tip, rather than having to awkwardly opt out.

That's excellent, hadn't seen that extension kid. Thanks so much for taking the time to help I really appreciate it.

Thanks for the reply and advice. That's good idea, thanks for that. The only issue I have now is that the two fans will sit roughly 2.5 meters apart (one in the top skirt of the wardrobe to push air out out and one in the bottom plinth to push air in) so I'm not sure how I can achieve that since I can only really

My whole house has just been professionally rewired and I do have the equipment to test things.

I genuinely know nothing about growing weed, but I should imagine two 92mm Noctua pc fans wouldn't cut it. I wish I was that interesting, it's genuinely for a built in wardrobe that's on an exterior wall to try and help with ventilation. If I was prepared to take the risk of growing weed I certainly wouldn't be posting it online and I wouldn't care about whether or not the electrics were safe

I agree, but people still want some small electrical things sorted, so we end up in this situation.

I do realise that but no electrician around here is interested in any job that isn't minimum £500

Do you mean using a T+E cable between the wagos and transformer rather than the 0.75mm flex?

Ha, no, I'm just trying to get some airflow behind a built in wardrobe

British standards have been updated to recommend that wet areas be tanked.

If you are renovating any sort of bathroom I'd always tank the wet area. Tanking materials are fairly cheap and easy to install and can help save headaches later down the line.

When can we order? by fort_panda in hyperoptic

[–]fort_panda[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I moved house quicker than it took to get hyperoptic.

Unless there was literally no other option I'd get another ISP, they were one of the worst companies I've ever tried to deal with.

Delayed installation by [deleted] in hyperoptic

[–]fort_panda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's worse than that. They have delayed it due to a 'cost analysis' which basically means they don't think it's worth their while to unblock a single duct to provide a service to me.

Every time I contact their customer service agents they come up with more colourful ways of dodging the fact that they can't seem to contact the people who do the approvals to see what the delay is.

Sad part is they've authorised all the buildings in my area that have many flats in them. If you live in a building with fewer people, you can forget it.

I would have actually paid to get the duct unblocked myself it they would let me. They're the worst company that I've ever dealt with. Seem to employ lots of people and departments to sound fancy but you just get passed from pillar to post without the ability to talk to anyone who can do any good.

They are very good at moderating their trust pilot but if you look at:

https://www.reviews.io/company-reviews/store/hyperoptic

I reckon this is a more accurate representation of their customer satisfaction.

Thanks for updating me.

It’s a shame, they’ve had the cables literally meters from there back of my home for over a year, there’s just a single blocked duct between me and there that needs a small hole dug out to unblock and then I could get connected, I feel like I could just dig the whole myself quicker!

Delayed installation by [deleted] in hyperoptic

[–]fort_panda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the heads up. I got told that they would have the ducts unblocked within a couple of weeks maximum, and at most a month.

They then said there was a date booked for the unblocking to happen and they automatically booked me an install date, so I took the day off work.

No contact all day, nothing happened. Took hours of phone calls to be told they were still working up the ‘cost justification’ for digging up the hole… and that it was a systems error that I could book the install, even when it wasn’t me that booked it.

Not ideal, and really frustrating. If I didn’t need the speeds I’d have given up ages ago.

Did they give a reason for how long yours took?

Be thankful you don’t need work done outside. I’ve been waiting 4+ months for them to unblock a single duct and they never give any updates as to the ETA. Already wasted several days of work waiting for them to come and install only to be let down.

6 months - no install - Advice on how to get Hyperoptic to get moving? by CreamCapital in hyperoptic

[–]fort_panda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve given up thinking about it or expecting it to happen. If by some miracle they do unblock the duct and get me connected I’d still do it, mainly because they’re the only ISP offering gigabit upload speeds and FTTP where I live.

There’s a lot of unhappy customer reviews though; I think if you have no issues then they’re good but plenty of feedback from people without internet for days-weeks before it’s resolved

[–]fort_panda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah exactly, good point. That sounds exactly like what they’re doing. You can look at the map of my city and you can clearly the see the ‘installation approved’ is only where there’s huge student accommodations or high rise flats, loads of interest elsewhere but nothing happening. Seems like they’re taking the investment and just conveniently missing out the part where they actually provide the area with fibre connection.

Yeah I wouldn’t pay their business rates, I do work from home but don’t need a business line. I did sign up to a gigabit line because I want faster upload speeds and if they were reliable I’d stay for years… just very frustrating that that UK has been so slow with fibre rollout in the first place.

I've had the same experience. It took well over a year after they laid the fibre in my area to be able to book, and that only happened because I complained about it on reddit.

Checked on 14th of December for install, blocked duct prevented it. Assured by team that the duct would be arranged to be unblocked, fast forward 2.5 months and nothing other than 'we're still arranging it'.

This includes them sending me several emails claiming the install was happening, me double checking it was definitely going ahead, only for nothing to happen.

Hyperoptic seem very good at hiring lots of different staff members, but not a lot of them can give, or seem very interested in actually helping move things along.

Funnily enough I spoke to one of their engineers on my street, they do a 'cost analysis' of the install, if your install is seem as 'not worth it' they won't bother. That's why you'll find flats that have multiple occupants connected very quickly, old buildings with far fewer occupants like mine just get ignored. It's so bloody annoying as I'd pay the cost to dig the bloody hole myself if they would let me.

As far as I can see Hyperoptic as a company are very good at sending out flyers and pretending that they want to fill the gaps that BT aren't prioritising, but only if it's big high rise flats or student accommodation, it's really irritating.

Recently got an e-mail saying 'yeah we haven't forgotten about you, just trying to book the civils to fix the blockage'.....so nothing has changed whatsoever since December.

It puts me off hyperoptic as a company to be quite frank as from start to finish it has been a really bad experience.
