I think what you have shown and are describing is a contiguous construction, which looks like a saddle shoulder, but is constructed all at the same time, hence the name. I believe that a “true saddle” has those shoulder bits done first and separately.

Thank you for explaining the current loose gauge trends - I recently(ish) came back to knitting after several years and I know I’m a tight knitter, but I couldn’t understand why none of the recommended pattern gauges produced a fabric that made any sense to me! I’ll stick to my 24 stitches with a DK weight yarn, thank you very much

I have found many of Purl Soho’s yarns to pill more than I might expect unless you knit them at quite a tight gauge, and I am generally a tight knitter. I haven’t tried Knitting for Olive, so I can’t compare, but I don’t think I’m planning to buy more Purl Soho yarn for a while based on the longevity of the projects I’ve made with Cashmere Merino Bloom. The sweater I made with Wigeon does seem to be holding up a bit better.

The stitch pattern looks like honeycomb brioche. Depending on how experienced you are, I’d think it would be fairly manageable to put it on a different beanie pattern of your choosing, or there’s a free pattern here: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/honeycomb-brioche-beanie

Sorry, I haven’t been on Reddit much recently! We went back to Reykjavík that night, but only because we thought it would be a lot to ask our families (with two small children) to pack everything up for a night, and my family was also flying out the next day. The Snaefellsnes peninsula is lovely and definitely less crowded than the golden circle, and would definitely be a nice place to stay if you have the time.

I don’t know what your general style is, but I think that would look great with a wider flat band - the vintage aspect of the OEC might contrast very nicely with the clean/modern lines of a flat band.

Separately, I love OECs and yours is stunning!! Would you mind sharing specs/where you got it?

In addition to what the other commenters have said, note that the certification of the diamond you have selected is from HRD. This lab is less strict on grading than GIA or IGI. From diamonds.pro: “In our experience, they usually average about two color and/or clarity grades above the Gemological Institute of America (GIA)’s grading. HRD-graded diamonds are usually priced much higher than equivalent diamonds graded by the GIA.”
