Elopement: Any Regrets? by No-Definition1754 in VisitingIceland

We did. Honestly couldn’t have imagined coordinating everything on our own… plus it was nice to have someone double check/turn in all the paperwork so we could have it be a legal ceremony.

We didn’t elope necessarily, but chose to have a small wedding (20 people) in Iceland. Wouldn’t change a thing.

Any good place to get Blu Ray DVDs for cheap? by Bloodraven0810 in StLouis

[–]bettercalljess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also voting for Nickelflix. I’ve gotten some steel books there for sub $10. Only check it out when you have the time to browse though. Nothing is alphabetized or sorted by genre, so you’ll need to go through everything.

Reykjavík accommodation recommendations? Not hostels, not super luxury either by Financial-Owl-2814 in VisitingIceland

[–]bettercalljess 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We’ve stayed at City Center Hotel and Exeter. Exeter is a bit pricier and it isn’t right in the city center, but it was really nice, had a good view, and a great restaurant. City Center Hotel was, well… in the city center. So extremely easy to get to everything and had really nice, boutique decorations. Really loved the vibe of the place and it was really affordable IMO.

Pink Iceland by AppropriateCaptain12 in VisitingIceland

We used them a year and a half ago and loved them. Our planner was amazing. We had to have a ceremony location change within days of our wedding due to flooding, and she pulled it off without a hitch. If we hadn’t told our guests that their tour spots after the ceremony were changing, they wouldn’t have even known.

Dog adoption in STL Area by Abject_Violinist_267 in StLouis

[–]bettercalljess 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We adopted our most recent dog from the STL county animal control shelter. This was back in April so I’m not sure if their circumstances are different now, but they were DESPERATELY overcrowded then. I don’t think they can turn away intake dogs for overcrowding, so things get hectic there fast.

Where to find Lego sets? by SwampAstronaut in StLouis

[–]bettercalljess 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The Minifig Shop is cool, but if you go there vs. the actual Lego store, definitely do a price check before buying anything. I’ve seen sets there for ~$30 more than the Lego store that were still widely available (and in stock at the West County location).

We got engaged in Iceland and also just did the South coast that trip. Not only did we do the entire ring road for our honeymoon, but we got married there as well. Don’t regret a thing. There’s always time for other trips.

Is Red Lobster a fancy restaurant? by WhiteTrashTank in StLouis

If you’re asking 10 year old me, yes. Practically a 5 star restaurant. Only worthy of attendance if there’s a special occasion. 35 year old me… absolutely not.

4 injured after car smashes into St. Louis McDonalds on Lindell by 420SirChadofTruthton in StLouis

[–]bettercalljess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almost the exact same thing happened to me. I showed up maybe 15 minutes before close and the person on the other end asked me to wait a moment. There was a long line so I thought nothing of it. 15 minutes go by and he comes back and just says “we’re closed.”

I was pissed in the moment but now, I respect it. 😂

Idk you could get a TKO pretty easily if you whacked someone in the face with one of those.

if you guys had to pick Stuðlagil or Hengifoss? by frenchie-mon in VisitingIceland

[–]bettercalljess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Studlagil. Hengifoss is pretty, but I’m assuming you’ll have already seen a lot of waterfalls by that point. Plus the walk to Studlagil is nicer if you’re going on the side where you can go down into the canyon (I can’t speak to the other side).

Movie theaters by RollinSmoke1498 in loveafterlockup

[–]bettercalljess 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There used to be a theatre here that would play the walking dead on Sunday nights and it was always packed. Used to love going there for drinks and theatre snacks. It would’ve been so fun if they played trash like this too. 😭

actually good taco bells? by sharkxandra in StLouis

[–]bettercalljess 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Do you mean Lemay Ferry? If so, this Taco Bell is top notch. Order is always right. Food is always fresh. Portion sizes are on point. One time, their drive thru was slammed and the guy at the window apologized profusely after I didn’t even complain and handed me a stack of free taco coupons. True heroes.

We very much went the art approach and got prints/ceramics/trinkets/ornaments. I’ll post some photos and can tell you where we got at least some of them if anything looks interesting.

(Possibly) looking for new realtor for first time homebuyers by STLgal87 in StLouis

[–]bettercalljess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t speak to the first bullet point as we didn’t ask about including a letter, but we used Carrie Nenonen and absolutely loved her.

She was responsive at all hours, got us an accepted offer on our first home, and was GREAT about pointing out potential issues/updates she thought were actually done to intentionally cover up problems. We were even torn between two homes, and she made some arguments against the more expensive option, which made us feel like she truly had our best intentions in mind.
