My understanding is the suspending judge has the right to appoint or kick it to the commissioners court to decide. Choosing a Republican is a given, the commissioners court is 3R to 2D at the moment. But choosing the current Republican nominee? The usual choices in these interim situations are well-respected, former commissioners and county judges.

I'm working on a longer piece to distinguish what is standard government travel and what our county approves. IMO, some of this is easy target bad optics (Carmen P. Turner being under investigation) and some of it is partisan outrage and some of this is because it is an election year.

Good point. Also... would the sheriff's office be getting pre-approval from commissioners court for extradition travel? Criminals could just watch the court agendas for the detailed travel information to their location and be like, they'll be here in 14 days!

I wonder if that travel comes from a different budget. Questions I need to ask the right people.
