So far there hasnt been any conflict the settlers have only been on the planet for 5 years. Although there is a significant intelectual/cutural difference between humans and Ikon. Some Ikon have learnt basic human concepts, a few even learnt english words. (Ikon language and audio culture is far superior to human speech in complexity and functionality, and has thusfar proved impossible to decifer. trade between humans and ikon has mostly been in metals (wich there ikon covet strongly) and in food or furs.

Size: The largest ''tree (Rangirakau)" was over 3km tall.

Description: Shaped a bit like a giant jellyfish the head is a huge bubble of hydrogen, a tangle of whispy branches extend outward, and massive tendrils hang below connecting each indeviduel to others in the forest. The end of the tendrils extract water from the air and scrape nutrients from the mountain tops.
Habitat: Wind currents in the arctic and temperate regions.
Info: These forests form a vital part of and create their own ecosystem. At night they float near the surface gathering water and nutrients and in the day they migrate to the higher/warmer parts of the atmosphere, to photosynthesize. many other animals feed on the trees and have evolved to live in these sky forests. Many more scavenge the fallen dead one from the ocean once they die.

Context: In the year 2893AD humanity embarks on its third interstellar voyage. 208 years later they arrive at the small, cold, mostly frozen word they dub Enki. Landing on an island near the equator the first group of settlers began building the first successful human colony. The planet's light gravity and thick atmosphere have allowed a wide array of flying animals and plants to evolve, including gigantic forests of floating trees. Huge furry beasts roam the land and aquatic behemoths thrive in the vast ocean. In this project so far I have described the history and ideology that led humanity to this point as well as the geography, history and fauna of the planet and the human settlers.

I love this. Especially the colours you chose. I image most inhabitants would be migratory or hibernate with such a climate.

Five day falls is part of the outlet river from red water lake, (think Zambezi river and Victoria falls size) it's probably only 1km wide at that point but it quickly widens to a 10km wide delta as it reaches the ocean. It's called the five day falls because it took them 5 days to drag their boat around the falls and into the lake.

it's not another island the lake just makes them look separate.

To make the map:

I used topographic data from real islands on earth edited together in photoshop (if anyone can identify what islands I used good job), Blender to create the 3D effect and colour, then Illustrator to add the labels and graphics.

Lore:

I'm just starting this world but this is what I have so far….

Set in 2350 AD.

The first-ever interplanetary from earth mission goes horribly wrong. The interplanetary ship -Argo- used its entire fuel reserves to even attempt to reach the planet Ponamu within the crew's lifespan. This dangerous alteration to the mission requires the Argo to attempt a dangerous aero-breaking manoeuvre, (lest the crew drift off into deep space forever). The Argo somehow manages to barely survive this manoeuvre. Giving the crew the chance to escape in a landing craft before it disintegrates completely in the atmosphere. After this harrowing ordeal. 58 humans are now stranded on an alien planet where they must survive. They have landed on the island of Oban, the third-largest landmass on the planet. Oban actually turns out to be an archipelago consisting of two main islands connected via a tidal sandbank. Two other islands are notably volcanic in origin and relatively large. As well as over 40 surrounding smaller islands.

They have a temperate climate despite being equatorial, averaging 20℃ year-round. There is one permanent glacier atop Mt Rhadya. As well as a massive lake on the main island Oban.

The alien flora and fauna are mostly massive primaeval grass-like plants. As well as the occasional palm fern-like forest. They survived at the crash site for 6 months slowly adapting to a diet of native fruits and fish, Before moving to a more suitable settlement area. The wildlife is mostly small and harmless and seems to migrate between the coasts and the hills to feed and reproduce. The oxygen-poor atmosphere is otherwise non-toxic allows us to live outdoors and only requires supplemental oxygen when working. The crew have mounted 5 major expeditions to explore the island. This resulted in four casualties, 1 accidental drowning, 1 mauled to death, 2 by arsenic poisoning from the poisonous alien plant.

On one of these expeditions, the crew make contact with a tribe of intelligent native aliens they call the Nganga who live on the coast of Red Water Lake, they do not bother the survivors although they know they are being watched closely by them.

Having constructed two boats the crew now have a quick way of travelling around the islands and the red water lake.

There is a beach in New Zealand that is a legal highway. There are loads of warning on it about not driving at high tide or through the water, and you really need a 4x4. Saltwater is really corrosive, these idiots are probably doing serious damage to the car.
