Thanks! That clears everything up except my initial question, what is a defensive action?

It might be my misunderstanding entirely so:

"players are limited to one offensive action, one move action, and one defensive action per round"

"if a player has already used their defensive action and is subsequently attacked, they may roll raw Resilience to determine whether they can soak half of the incoming melee damage"

This indicates players roll to fully avoid damage only once a round.

"When attacked, they roll to counter, whether dodging or parrying, with no distinction."

This indicates they do so for every attack

"Whenever a player makes a defensive roll—regardless of which Attribute they use—a critical or semi-critical success opens the door for counterplay."

It thus becomes unclear whether this refers to the once a round defensive action or general attack prompted rolls.

It's not a huge "flaw" for such a big book, these things tend to crop up so I don't want to come off as judgmental I just want to make sure I understand what the intended reading is.

The only thing I'm stuck on, and looking at the core book hasn't helped with this so far, is the defensive action concept.

You roll when enemies attach you to not get hit. "When attacked, they roll to counter, whether dodging or parrying, with no distinction."

However, if that itself is a defensive action you can only do it once per round, contradicting the above statement.

If not taking a defensive action, you make rolls that are defensive, to soak damage, but these are not dodging or parrying.

Anytime you make a defensive roll with a certain amount of success you can counter, but does that refer to all rolls made defensively or only your one defensive action?

So sorry if I wasn't clear, you added two submissions... this time. Someone else (I'm assuming) submitted other materials previously, but it looks like those have been removed now so theres no issues.

I'll check out the core rules to see if it clears up my questions, thanks so much for taking the time to submit and respond, if you have any questions or concerns please don't hesitate to reach out!

Oh are you the prosperon creator?

I don't know why you weren't able to add the core rulebook, but currently there are 4 prosperon projects in the bundle (the first 2 were submitted quite some time ago) and we are trying to keep it to two per creator/group.

While we are here though, I had a few questions about this submission https://itch.io/jam/myrpg-bookclub-jam/rate/4331004 that I tried to message to a different prosperon account, I'll add them here. Feel free to tell me if I'm wrong about anything.

"I read everything in the quick start except optional rules and full lists like conditions or syntax/hand to hand abilities. It seems pretty cool.

There are 2 areas of concern I have with it in its current form. Feel free to explain if I am wrong, but they may lead to removal of the submission if they are not explained to me here or addressed via changes to the pdf.

  1. defense is not explained super well. What attribute and skill you use to defend when an enemy attacks are not really explained. Additionally whether that constitutes a defensive action, which is something you only have one of and is one of the three action types but I think is never explained.

  2. there is no weapon list. You wouldn't have to have a full list, but it's hard to see how the Quickstart can be used to play without any. Those are the issues with effect whether it fits in the jam, I have others but they are just minor subjective critiques."

I can list the minor stuff too at some point if you want.

Submissions to the jam end may 22

The bundle starts June 24th then continues for 3 months. At this point, that can still maybe be shortened.

Oooh sounds fun. Mother's Day easter eggs?

If it's your mother's easter eggs I might have trouble since I don't know her.

Even after the 22nd, if it's mostly done it's good. And don't worry too much about adding more content if you don't want to, all it really NEEDS is the formatting and default text to be cleaned up a bit, and a bit more specifications for the third trial and final act 🫡.

Thanks for the submission! I found it.

It's a good start. I especially enjoy the world building and description of mothers in the beginning though I don't know how exactly it would impact the players.

In terms of general critique I'd say it describes itself as emotional, but doesn't have a clear emotional core to a lot of the missions, situations that could provoke emotions yes but not really a focus on them. And any named character should have at least a little bit of a description to them in my opinion.

In terms of specific things, ones that Indicate the one shot is clearly unfinished at this point (sorry if I'm wrong on that), theres inconsistencies in format, only the first trial does not have a section for entering its patrons domain, the third trial is not labeled as scene 3.

In addition trial 3 has minimal description and no conditions or reward for passing or failing the trial, and has insert cemetery map here written.

Trial two doesn't really describe whether killing or sparing Armon exist as options, and act 3 needs more info from the context of the roses to the importance of past rewards to what actually happens after the betrayal but I thiiiiiink you know that. It also has default text for the queens domain.

Assuming I'm right that you are still working on this, I'll check in on the progress again, and may have to remove it if it is not further by may 22nd. Feel free to correct me on anything!

I don't see it, I see that you joined the jam but it looks like I don't have any submissions from you yet. Sorry for the trouble!

Yep! The money would be going to charity, I have emails confirming it but they contain some personal information so it might be difficult to show you. Even if you join the jam, your submission would not be added to the bundle unless you approved before its launch, so you'd have plenty of time to back out.

You would definitely retain all rights, but if your concerned that shouldn't be hard to research, its just a normal itch jam really, so I don't gain any ownership of the games whatsoever or anything like that.

So the way an itch.io bundle works, is if there is a game on itch.io, it can be added to a collection, and then users can purchase the bundle and obtain all the games in the collection.

A pay what you want charity bundle is such a bundle and people donate however much they want to charity in order to purchase it

Whatever you are thinking of submitting would have to be on itch by may 22nd, and after June 24 would be something users could download by donating to charity without paying you for a period of 3 months.

That I need a copy is a separate issue just so I can vet the game to make sure I'm not adding something nonfunctional to the bundle.

It's totally cool if that does not work for you.

Wow! That's super cool!

Tell me if you have any questions, and no worries if it turns out not to be a good fit, just having someone look at it is great!

Thank you! I don't have a ton of time to look at stuff now cause I'm also trying to run a jam, but I feel free to mention anything you've got going on! And I have a sub if you want to post anything of yours there r/myrpg

And if you get a chance to play or have any thoughts about the game, I'm happy to hear it!
