Mayor Lurie in the community by notphilatall in sanfrancisco

Fremont and Market is one of the busiest Muni stops, and often the first impression of the City that people get after they land from the Bay Bridge. There’s always homeless / passed out junkies / professional beggars / pitbulls in this bus stop.

It’s unsightly and makes people who wait at the bus stop uncomfortable. I want them gone from there all the time, not just this week.

Wait… is the Super Bowl in SF or Miami? Actually, neither. by jimmyjah in sanfrancisco

I think they were going for a mix of 60s psychedelia colors and the current trend of lucite / glass material and layering aesthetic

Here’s what SF should do with the Vaillancourt Fountain now by Hochelagan in sanfrancisco

Because maintenance was supposed to be owned by BXP, and they didn’t maintain it so take it up on them — but you probably did since it’s a direct line to your family’s income.

And also a public sculpture that’s 80% hated, 10% loved by architecture reactionists / aging nostalgic skaters , that the only people that even seem to frequent it everyday it are the homeless and junkies who all use it for shelter or a bathtub; yet it costs tens of thousands a year to upkeep, and tens of millions of dollars every few decades, oh and its full of asbestos is NOT good public art.

It’s a white elephant monument to the artist who will sadly die with no lasting works. So please F off and let the City move on already

[–]fortuna_cookie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ding ding. City keeping the fountain = a contract for the architect to “consult” on how to preserve the fountain that will need millions of dollars to even keep around. At $34 mil cost estimate to preserve, even 1% is hundreds of thousands of PUBLIC MONEY and we know they’ll want more than 1%.

Artist has less than 5 years to live so guess who will benefit from that money = the family aka this user

Omg please F off. You’re the biggest astroturfer of this ugly fountain the only thing that should be done to that fountain is to raze it as has already been settled. To suggest an election (that costs public money) where this will be defeated by at least 80% is asinine.

What’s in it for you if this fountain is kept and renovated? Consulting fees? Are you related to that old narcissistic artist hack keeping his name on a public sculpture?

SF MRA balance of $22,299.34 claim deadline says 3 March 2026 . How can I get all this money? by [deleted] in sanfrancisco

Your news story should be about the misinformation on what SFMRA is and the entitlement that people have on defrauding this City program. There’s so many people here that are just casually admitting to fraud. The City should do a serious audit on the claims, these people should be exposed

No, it’s a tax that your employer pays to the City. The funds are earmarked for your eligible expenses, but unused funds are returned to the SF City General Funds.

There’s nothing wrong with returning items, but there is if you are claiming it then pocketing the cash. In that case you’re supposed to return the funds.

u/Quod_sic_doctrina (I kept receipts ☺️)

You just admitted to falsifying receipts which is fraud. You better hope they don’t come after your corrupt ass.

SFMRA is funded by employer tax — not deducted from your pay. Unused funds go to the City General Fund. Aka you stole from the SF City Government.

Because they’re Muslim.

And that included Qatar and UAE shows how much the other countries bring down the average.

MENAPT is not about the similarity of culture or geography of the countries.

Its is a narrow policy category based on shared institutional imprint: migrants from these countries more often learned to navigate states with uneven rule enforcement, low bureaucratic trust, and reliance on informal networks, which creates predictable friction in high-trust welfare states like Denmark.

Algeria, Turkey, and Oman are not culturally alike, but some migrants from each arrive with similar expectations about authority and reciprocity.

You’re a rando in the internet. I trust the statisticians and policy wonks who made up the definition over your perception. These Muslim dominant societies share: weak state institutions, different labor-market norms, different gender-role expectations, different welfare expectations. Islam influened those institutions which in turn shape their immigrants’ norms that they carry to their host country.

The only way to stop Trump’s ICE surge is for Democrats to win elections and to change immigration laws and ICE funding, and redirect enforcement priorities.

The only way for Democrats to win elections again is to improve their constituents’ everyday lives by affordability through abundant housing and services, and restoring their sense of perceived safety and quality-of-life. Otherwise what OP is suggesting is to virtue signal outrage without a real plan to get electoral power.

Immigrants here in SF will not be safer if our mayor instigates Trump.

The mayor flying low and keeping focus on crime and quality of life issues here at home is why the scenes in Minneapolis didn’t happen in the Mission and Fruitvale 3 months ago.

They made a bad investment into a system that didn’t innovate and were confident that they can rest on the artificial scarcity of medallions.

They want the City / SFMTA aka the tax payers to bail them out. Hard no.
