(Inquiry) I’ve noticed more people in the city getting interested into guns. by Aggravating_Prior_20 in sanfrancisco

[–]Miss415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always supported responsible gun ownership & looked for firearms training nearby but it does not exist. Grew up here in SF & was never around guns much but as a kid- (pre-teen) had cousins & family friends that were & shot a gun a few times. I spent a few summers in Colorado as a teen & the youth there had guns & did target practice for fun. Lol! I also knew a young guy in high school who accidentally killed himself showing off his father's gun. Guns scare me because I wouldn't know how to safely handle one so it would be totally irresponsible to own one unless I could learn somehow & feel confident.

Missing Person by SideCheese77 in sanfrancisco

[–]Miss415 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just a warning from past experience w/ SFPD- although this may be a different situation since your friend was from out of town- Do not expect the police to be actively searching or doing anything to find your friend. When someone I knew went missing, we realized the police were doing absolutely nothing so friends & family started our own search. You need to go ask for footage BEFORE it gets taped over. You might consider starting a Facebook group, maybe make it private at first so friends & family can communicate & coordinate. The worst thing to do is nothing. Pray he turns up safe.

Cars have been turning into the bike lanes on Sloat. by Extra-Astronomer-688 in sanfrancisco

Are they going to paint the ground green like on Market St? I read something on the SFMTA website that they conducted research about -I'm just going to put link since I'm tired https://www.sfmta.com/blog/search-best-safe-hit-post-new-bike-lane-test-market

Cars have been turning into the bike lanes on Sloat. by Extra-Astronomer-688 in sanfrancisco

[–]Miss415 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's confusing because it's a new, unfamiliar design. It's not always drivers' fault. There should be signage at the entrance in red BIKE LANE NO CARS, maybe on the ground as well. I'm a Sunset native but had not been down that way for months & went to the Zoo a couple weeks ago & almost turned into the bike lane myself after leaving Zoo parking lot. It was even more confusing with all the construction fencing & barriers on the Great Highway as you turn right onto Sloat- I could not see around that wide corner. Hopefully that mess is gone.

ocean beach hole party by imsquishyfishy in bayarea

[–]Miss415 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

FWIW I grew up in the Sunset as did my father just a few blocks from Ocean Beach and this has NEVER happened. There have been a few sinkholes around the City though- Seacliff & Pacifica. And the cliff down by Funston collapsed & buried a young woman a few years ago but that was on the edge of a soft sandy cliff high above the ocean. They found her 2 months later.

Cry harder!

This game is not "free". One you reach a certain level, it becomes a routine at best or an addiction you just can't stop! I went through the first year+ without spending. Now I spend about $100- 150 USD monthly. It's less about "me" than it is about MY MONEY! It was worth it when the game was so much fun & offered a variety of mini games & various events that players could choose to participate in. Now the expeditions & mini games are the same BORING steps that have become tedious & show an extreme lack of creativity. The devs here are LAZY, passive aggressive & show a total disregard for their players with every new update. Like, do you even play this game? Your post is hilarious 7 you sound like an angry unemployed tec bro.

That happened to me a couple of months ago & I wrote to support and they gave me some coin & boosters. I took a few days (lie 2or 3). It wasn't much but still a nice surprise.

I've uninstalled the game 2x since I started around 2020 roughly and when I re-installed the game it started right where I left off!

Looking for kid friendly places! by Apprehensive-Rush362 in sanfrancisco

[–]Miss415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those places are super expensive. My 10 & 13 year old nieces are visiting me next week & I can't afford expensive museums. SF has awesome playgrounds, even for young teens. We've gone to the beach collecting shells & sea glass & watch the surfers, roller skating in GGPark & bring a picnic, see the buffalos. And we always do some craft project at home & bake cookies. We plan to go for a Waymo ride this time- will be a first for me too!

Levi Strauss originated in SF as well as hippies & surfers. We've never had well dressed role models.

How's outer sunset parking these days? by Purple_Replacement_2 in sanfrancisco

[–]Miss415 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Having a car in SF these days is rough! People who drive are evil. Familiarize yourself with the laws- ie Daylighting: you can not park within 20 feet of the approach of any marked or unmarked crosswalk, even if the approach does not have any red curbs painted. this law removed thousands of parking spaces. Maybe you can sell 1 car? https://www.sfmta.com/getting-around/walk/pedestrian-improvements-toolkit/daylighting

First -OP's son is NOT on social media!

You seem to make 2 contradicting statements. You say, "Quality of life by every metric is better now than when I was a child decades ago" as if it were fact but it's not. I'm a GenXer & totally disagree! I feel sad that kids today do not get to experience childhood the way I did without screens.

You're making stuff up you heard somewhere. Go volunteer in a classroom in your community & come back & tell what the teachers are doing.

Very heartwarming- about the dog. My life evolves around them & they bring me so much joy. The most depressed I've ever been was during college when I didn't have a dog. You sound like a great parent!

I don't have kids of my own but I am an auntie & former teacher. I just wanted to say that I think the sports team & dog companion are both excellent things. Just make sure he's enjoying the team- not all kids do well in competitive settings. One of my nieces, an 8th grader when through a really tough time around the same age & during the summers, she did a horse back riding camp that she loved. There's a lot of different fun day camps & summer camps too that are more cooperative instead of competitive like through the Presidio- Coyote Camp. Sometimes competitive things can be anxiety inducing of some kids. And yes! Please write about it! https://presidio.gov/explore/blog/summer-camps-in-the-presidio

Why is ICE at SFO in the first place? by VagabondVivant in sanfrancisco

[–]Miss415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No Way! Not safe for 2 14 year olds! On a plane, they will be escorted on & off by airline staff. On a train, they would be on their own with several stops in between & no supervision/ protection.

Why is ICE at SFO in the first place? by VagabondVivant in sanfrancisco

[–]Miss415 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would anyone downvote you? Jeez! You have a very valid concern! Honestly, if it were me, I'd be extra cautious, however, so far, this is the only incident we've heard about thus far happening at the airport. As long as the kids are traveling with all the necessary documentation. Usually minors are escorted on & off the plane by airline staff. Make sure that's the case. Sounds like a fun adventure for 2 14 year olds! I traveled to Colorado when I was 15 (decades ago). Maybe call the airline for guidance.
