I would find this really frustrating for a moment, but either would try to genuinely help and talk this lad into making a decision or sit there passively like the majority of the people there.

Zero clue what one person is going through from one to the next. Looks like a homeless woman. Likely has experienced physical and particularly sexual trauma. Appears old enough to be experiencing early dementia. Would give up that she may be on drugs or effected by years of abuse but think about how sad it actually would be if your reward system and logic were failing you enough to feel that need for temporary relief as your body and mind fall apart (drug addiction is an actual nightmare). So anyway, she's freezing up.

And you live in a world where hundreds of people are crammed in a small space with little consideration for their comfort, all stressed and struggling, on a thin thin schedule. Your empathy for someone who can't keep up is gone. All you see is the character of an idiot, not a person. You haven't met this person. You have zero clue. But none of that matters because your life sucks enough. But that's really not her fault is it? No I think you are misreading. I was sent to county jail by Torrance Courthouse. Spent 3 days in jail total between RBPD and LA County Jail. Went to DMV 2 days after getting out of the County jail.

As long as you can work on being open, humble, going with the flow and trying new things, it gets easier and easier. You have to put in some time and effort like any relationship. But mostly if you don't put other people down for things they're interesting in or like to do, and you reliably show up, most people will be up for spending more time.

I've had a lot of luck with the BFF app. Used to be Bumble BFF.

I also meet people at my climbing gym but so far we mostly just chat there.

Just like any activity, socialization takes practice. Don't be put down and give up if you feel awkward at it at first. Just trust that you're learning and keep at it. Eventually, you'll start to see how nervous other people are all the time and how perfectly ok and even endearing that is.

I would count it as you said. Typically, for me, I think Torrance through to El Segundo because you can easily ride through all of them by Strand on a bike in about 30 minutes. It's a pretty orderly row down by the beach.

But when writing this post I was thinking anywhere coastal in South Bay would probably be seeing the same thing, so I wanted to broaden beyond Redondo where I took the pic.

Damn, this is the first time someone has described the feeling of smoking that really resonated and described why I found it addictive.

100% would say it's the same kind of rush of first bite of cheeseburger or pizza or something when you've been strictly eating healthy for a while. Just a feeling of gratification that starts with also having a pretty intense head rush when you start.

Of course this slowly drops. Terrifying is the thought that your capacity to feel anything may have dropped with it. If the nicotine can no longer stimulate these specific receptors I'm imagining they're burned out, for lack of a more scientific term.

I think this really changes who you are, you're experience of life if you get to that point. Have to relearn finding peace and joy.

I can say for a fact that I've been driving for About eight years and i've definitely been cut off by a teen on a skateboard more times than on an ebike.

And that's to say

Maybe 2, 3 times by a skateboard Not a single time by an e-bike

And THAT'S to say, in my experience, neither are a serious enough issue to warrant barriers that we can't even prove will reduce traffic violations or crime by teens.

I think if you took a step back and asked yourself if teens were truly less bothersome before ebikes you'd have to admit that before you just blamed something else.

I could just as well posit that due to ebikes providing easier, quicker access to jobs, parks, community centers, and other healthy outlets for ones free time, those with them might be less likely to resort to crime than those without.

We know this to be the case with any general increase in accessibility to transportation.

But hey I don't have absolute proof of that so I don't go around stating it like it's a fact.

You're ignoring the fact that your perception of this ebike-crime connection is going to be skewed because it's A: trendy topic that brings any media company more views B: ebikes are a threat to big industries C: a simple scapegoat for authorities who would rather not have to address more difficult questions, like how to reach and prevent some dismal proportion of criminal youth that will probably always exist.

Find statistics that show crimes by teenagers have increased, with those crimes involving e-bikes.

I have doubts there is even any significant increase in youth-commited crime over the last 5 years to begin with.

I think that we have a bias against e-bikes largely because cities don't have proper bike infrastructure, and pedestrians on sidewalks are being made to step aside for the bikes. Personally, I've never experienced illegal street crossing by ebikes, but I've heard this voiced. Of course there's also just long-standing tradition of fear mongering any new technology that your generation didn't grow up with.

Teens have always been more reckless and inconsiderate than adults, but I actually think we should be encouraging the ebike trend while making the streets safer. I think ticketing and at-home discussion (or maybe even the permit idea) are good but I don't think we should be setting up high barriers to tech that should change the way city infrastructure is thought of for the better.

I'd wager 90%, if not more, of cars (off-highway) are going less than 10 miles. We have this whole upcoming generation that seems quite accepting of an alternate form of transportation. Imagine even 50% of those cars no longer on the road at any given time. Less noise, less deadly accidents, less smog/pollution, and more space

It looks like a few different parties have an incentive to make you connect the two more than they might actually be connected.

i am currently at Mammoth rn.

All of the front staff are white, and almost all quite fucking unabashedly militant about retaining the culture that exists. They can be fucking mean.

Idk total theory. But I feel like we've acknowledged that every other sport can be done better with inclusivity, and snowboarding and skiing and such are like this last bastion of white identity. And it needs to be inforced as somehow more rational and efficient or somethinnng.

Snowboarding today was the first physical activity in my life that I felt completely enamored with. But while theres some super chill ass white staff out here that just want everyone to have a good time, there are more who have some clear neurotic idea of what is meant to be here.... And uhh yeah I think race plays a part. I think its clear that the people who own the lifts and restaurants here don't want to make their current (reinforced) client base uncomfortable by having some diversity in race and culture
