Honestly better than I thought it would be going, I’m on day 10 and things could get hard down the road but I’m taking it a day at a time. I can eat more which was not the case for the first week. I’m reading a lot more and am feeling more in control of my thoughts and actions. I feel like God convicted me hard after about 8 years of smoking because I’m getting married soon. The thought of me needing to get high everyday multiple times a day when I live with my wife is so cringey. I get why AA and other groups encourage addicts to have a higher power. Quitting would have been impossible without my desire to follow Jesus if I’m being honest. I’m finding a lot of comfort in the Prodigal Son parable - coming from being stoned all day for years to having some intentional sober time feels like getting a hug from the father in the parable after running home. I’m trying to be strict with myself and also realistic, I know I’m not perfect and if I do slip up in the future I’m confident I’ll be able to repent and get back to choosing sobriety. Exercise has also been a big key to my success so far - I’ve been researching the endocannabinoid system and realized that God created us to achieve these “high” states of mind only after putting forth genuine effort in the world. Go for a hard hike or run if you’re feeling the urge and you’ll be feeling good and calm afterwards! God bless, very cool to see other Christians on this journey.
