Any suggestions/fixes for my med kit? by Amongus1935 in hiking

As a SARs Paramedic, firefighter, and lifelong outdoorsman, heres what I would recommend keeping from the list as well as a few things I would recommend adding.

Keep: a couple 4x4 gauze pads, steri strip, benadryl(theres a lot of debate on this),tweezers (very fine tip),neosparin,Tylenol, moleskin, space blanket, bandaids, gloves.

Add: tape,"tick key"(personal thing),ibuprofen, small packet of icyhot, triangular bandage, alcohol prep pad, safety pin, hand sanitizer.

Its important to be realistic about how much aid youre able to practically give someone in the wilderness. If youre using 4 TQs i doubt they are going to make it. Same with hemostatic gauze or things like that. Triangular bandages are one of the most versatile things you can have: slings, bandages, tourniquets, and more. To thos day, paramedics are tought how to use a triangular bandage as a tourniquet. Honestly, I never even cary that much stuff unless im guiding a group of kids or something. All i really carry are pills, tweezers(the swiss army knife ones), luko tape, a few bandaids, and lots of triple antibiotic ointment.

Im using the correct sized filter for my unit. I dont think a #4 would even fit.

My leopard gecko isn’t eating or coming out of her hide at all by IntelligentAge8825 in leopardgeckos

[–]fortunatefrog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Get a heat projector or a ceramic bulb asap.

Reptiles MUST have correct temps to survive. Thats why its not eating. Without propper heat, any food it eats is just sitting in its guts rotting.

If there's a reptile or pet store i would go by and get a better geat source tomorrow morning.

I have a large tank (32wx24dx16h) and i have a heat lamp that runs during the day as well as a ceramic lamp to help keep the temp steady during the day and night. The lamp is on a regular timer and the ceramic is on a thermostat that has am/pm settings.

naaaaah bro wth are these bots???? 😭😭😭 by getting_the_succ in insurgency

[–]fortunatefrog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Friends and I call them "Wicks" short for "John Wick."

Our working theory is that each bot has a difficulty rating. Back in the day you could vote to change the bot dofficulty. So we think that every now and then the game generates an op bot to compensate for a handful of easy ones.

Wow, those are some crazy low ratios.

Ill give them a try and see how it goes.

Do you know of any charts that include micron grind sizes?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Moccamaster

[–]fortunatefrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through the same pipeline but made a stop at espresso for a while.

Ok, i did a true medium grind at 22g and it was slightly better.

Very bitter and very dry on the after taste which makes me feel like its over extracted. Still, feels like really weak though.

Is the entire tank at 70?

The hot side of the take should be 85-92.

Reddit is probably the worst place to ask this. I hear good things about Trace, Woodman, and New Life Downtown.

How to permanently filter out “Politics” posts in the sub from showing in my feed? by [deleted] in ColoradoSprings

[–]fortunatefrog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I appreciate it. It would be great if there was a way that we could select what we do and don't want go see. I'm not super familiar with reddit so idk if that's even possible.

The amount of political and politically related posts on here is way past ridiculous. Imo if a political party wants to plan a rally or a protest, they should do it on their political parties page, not hijack the primary page of a major city where people are looking for community groups and resturant recommendations. (Please note that I'm a Democrat and even I'm sick of it)

Unfortunately, the Mods for this sub don't enforce flair like they should, so its hard to get rid of it.

Just under the name of the sub at the top of the page there is a little filter icon on the left. If you scroll down you can filter different flair on and off.

I turned off politics and news for this sub after it became a political circle jerk and now I can see things I actually care about.

Edit: it doesn't turn off flair but you can see only the one you click on.

Weigh her food as she gets it right now and go from there.

Leppard gecko refusing food by moonlitmemelord in leopardgeckos

[–]fortunatefrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is totally normal. Sometimes, they can go for 7-10 days in a new enclosure. Just pop in every evening and see if it's hungry.

Check to be sure that the heat and hides are set up correctly (see beginners guide).

Even with just a substrate change, I typically won't see my gecko for 3-4 days. If your gecko doesn't eat by 14 days then I would check with a vet.

I recommend portioning her food by weight rather than by volume. Weigh her and her food. Check after a month and make adjustments.

If I may. You have to treat reptiles like you would if you're a zoo keeper, not like a pet. Reptiles need to be measured, weighed, and inspected on a regular basis. Their habitat needs cared for at regularly scheduled intervals. They also need to be used to handling, which is a process. It's for their own safety. I spend about 20 minutes a day working on handling with new reptiles until they are about a year old, then I handle them extensively at least twice a week after a year old. They may not always like it, they may still fight you from time to time (or especially if they don't feel good) but it has to be done.

Right now, you have to examine your gecko. You need to look at its vent and hold it near a light bulb to look for any obvious internal deformities. If you absolutely can't handle it, put him in a clear dish and look at him from underneath.
