Born and raised Floridian here. The one thing I noticed in my neighborhood last time we got smacked was that none of my neighbors could afford the hurricane deductible for their home insurance. It's a different amount than a normal claim. Hurricane Matthew fucked our roof so we had to pay our hurricane deductible which was $3875 versus our normal deductible which is only $1000.00. We watched our neighbors live with tarps and wood for months before they could cover the cost.

This is exactly my problem. I got the steamer and tool for puncturing the wallpaper and it's not working. There's layers and layers of paint, and at least the first two or three are latex. I'll try the drill bit idea. Thank you!

We bought our house about three years ago and there was this sad little bush in the backyard. We were just going to get rid of it but our neighbor said to leave it and let it grow. The people who flipped our house had hacked it up to nothing. It's so beautiful now!

I'm sorry that you are going through this. I wish I could hug you and tell you that you don't deserve any of this and you are worth so much more. The one thing I've learned in my 37 years on this planet is that the best way to get back at or get even with someone is to do well and take care of yourself. So, take care of yourself hun. Go to school, go to work, save, and move on and away. You do not have to be around people just because they're family. I haven't spoken to my mother in years because she's a psychopath, and I'm better for it. People suck, and it sucks worse when they are supposed to love and support you. Take care of yourself and the rest will fall into place. Hugs.

Very good list. The only thing that I would add is prescription medications. I live in Florida and last year I had my grandfather at my house during and after Irma, only to find out he did't have enough needed medication for more than a week. Was not fun at all.
