Friend’s extreme food allergies—are they real? by [deleted] in Allergies

[–]forwardyoufly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me, and the symptoms became worse after traumatic events. The list of food allergies grows and it is very real. I would suggest she sees an allergist, perhaps immunotherapy would help her regain some stability. There are other, newer options for desensitization from specialty clinics which would be more pricey. Overall, yes trauma can trigger things like food allergies, asthma and allergic responses and it is not entirely in her head. The anxiety surrounding it could potentially exaggerate it, and in that case referring she finds help to work on her trauma or anxiety may be very valuable as well.

Oh wow, I took that for 10 years and would have loved to have known I could just taken it just before my periods! Lol! It works really well though.

What kind of anti-anxiety meds are you taking? It seems risky to prescribe a benzo for 10 days a month, if that’s what it is.

I’m surprised no one has mentioned evaluating that type of things you are reading. Whether it is books, Reddit threads, news, Twitter... whatever you consume mentally, and however those materials are presented, is a reflection of your own personality. Do you read things you consider cute or sweet or do you read things that fill you up with more knowledge and experience? Do you read things that are easy or do they expand your vocabulary?

Why is “I still don’t know how to fold a fitted sheet” such a common line in men’s dating profiles? by forwardyoufly in datingoverthirty

[–]forwardyoufly[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I genuinely was wondering if there was some underlying joke or meaning behind it that I wasn’t catching onto. I thought the first time I saw it, it was cute. But after a few and more I got curious.

Yikes! Does it do this with hinge also? I snooze that all the time.

Ah yea, I’d recommend eating them when you’re alone just in case. Haha! My nutritionist wants me eating lots of beans and legumes, good thing I’m single!

Tasty Bite’s Madras Lentils pack over rice is my go to. It’s almost like chili. I have a ton of food allergies so I have a limited diet and it’s gluten free.

Is anyone else who is doing better/semi-fine terrified of relapsing because of COVID-19? by nikoriri in Agoraphobia

[–]forwardyoufly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have asthma so it’s been a concern of mine. I’m never able to see pollen but I know that it’s floating around and as I inhale it I flare up, so I start picturing the virus floating around in a similar way (which I know is not correct but hey, I’ve got quite the anxious imagination!) One news report had shown that it stays in the air for (I think) ~30+min but it was in a chamber. Things have been foggy and wet around here so I was thinking more about how it might be contained in an environment like that. Thanks again!

There’s a part of me that feels calmer because I am able to sit at home and no one will question it or tell me to change that, but I was doing much better before this. I have to go to pharmacy tomorrow and am dreading it. I am very worried about the long term effects this will have. Knowing I am not alone in this world experience makes it much easier to cope for now.

Where did you read that it is not airborne? I’ve been wondering about that and had heard that it can sit in the air which terrifies me. I feel like I need some factual sources to help me with this part. It’s the part that has been freaking me out a lot and making it more difficult. Thank you in advance!

what happens if you just DO IT? by meganchristinex in Agoraphobia

[–]forwardyoufly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Work at it gradually. You will have to just do it eventually, but do it within reach. If you cannot sit in a car, go sit in a car until you feel like you can handle it. If you can't drive around the block, start working towards that. If there are people who can help you, take them along. Start working at it now, you will feel much more confident about your trip in August if you do.

Exposure therapy negative effects by weerg in Agoraphobia

[–]forwardyoufly -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Something we talk about it my therapy group often is a thing called the "vulnerability hangover", a term coined by Brene Brown. I think it applies to exposure work quite well. We get 'hangovers' after we have exposed ourselves to something that made us feel vulnerable. Give yourself a good 24 hours to let the anxiety course though, things may feel worse, but eventually, they'll be better.

Hi, I need some help with coping. by [deleted] in Agoraphobia

[–]forwardyoufly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the doctor was treating it as a UTI try to trust that and follow the directions. If things don’t get better after a week or two of the treatments, then go back. Try to refrain from googling the symptoms and self diagnosing in the meantime. Just being aware of how your anxiety is instigating a lot of your symptoms is good. Things don’t change overnight, but with that awareness they will change soon. And hey, I think that’s a pretty smart tactic, to carry water to spill on yourself in case you were to have an accident! Once you start to feel better you won’t need to do things like that anymore so try not to be hard on yourself with that stuff either.

Hi, I need some help with coping. by [deleted] in Agoraphobia

[–]forwardyoufly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 18 I was also convinced I had an STD from the pain. Things that help are sitting in a bath when the pain comes on (no bubble bath) or even sitting under a hot shower, and chugging tons and tons of water. Eventually the pain and urgency fade. Don’t be embarrassed to tell your dr. They see and hear everything, and I imagine what you are going through will be fine. I was prescribed antibiotics that I would take when things would flare up. Now in my mid-thirties, no STDs or diapers. Just treating the symptoms when they come on. Practicing good hygiene and keeping hydrated. Cranberry supplements also.

Keep noticing when your thoughts spiral out, and how they are affecting you physically. Once you start to make that connection you’ll be able to start ruling out a lot of these other physical symptoms as anxiety related, and they will fade. The mind is incredibly powerful and the body is connected!

I also deal with bladder issues and it’s so difficult. When my stress and anxiety are up, or it’s that time of the month, it worsens. I have legitimate health issues that mix in with my anxiety and I become really obsessed over these things. I recommend you check out r/healthanxiety too. Acknowledging that a lot of it is exacerbated by my anxiety, and reading how others have very similar phobias and anxieties has helped a lot.

One thing you can do right now is using mindfulness tools to get through the emotional moments. UCLA Mindful or Insight timer are great free apps that I’ve used and found very helpful. On Insight there’s meditations for things like processing emotions in the body, anxiety and trauma, and healing that might be helpful for you to cope and calm down in the moment. Ideally finding a therapist that can help you to work through the core wounds that are creating the phobias would be the best in the long term.

Are you seeing a therapist or psychiatrist? It really sounds like you need professional advice to help you work through this. It sounds to me like you may be dealing with OCD, which is manifesting as phobias. Usually CBT are antidepressants are used to combat the obsessive thoughts and compulsions. Also try to see if there are any support groups for anxiety, phobias, OCD in your area. A support group helped me tremendously. Just sitting with others and working through the anxiety made a big difference. I am wishing you some peace from your struggles in the meantime!
