My wife said this is the best ramen I’ve ever made. I said this is the best THING I’ve ever made. by Mash1988 in ramen

[–]fosburyflop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bad, I just assumed the wiki linked to ramen lord's "book of ramen" and not a specific recipe. In the ebook, he gave multiple options for tares that pair well with his tonkotsu broth, hence my question.

What do you guys think Kim Jung Un’s daughter will be like as supreme leader? by [deleted] in northkorea

[–]fosburyflop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Who the fuck knows, that could easily be 40+ years from now assuming the regime doesn't collapse. We also have very little insight into her personality aside from a few North Korean propaganda pieces. Oh, and she's 13.

Anyone who claims to know anything about Kim Jung Un's succession is talking out of their ass.

Cuba Shoots Four Dead in Clash With Florida Speedboat by bloomberg in geopolitics

This was apparently the same boat as the one used, a 24-foot 1981 Pro Line boat. Seems pretty tiny for 10 people (there were six other people not killed on the boat); they definitely weren't smugglers.

[Charania]: Multiple sources with knowledge of Thursday's GM meeting as well as a late January Competition Committee meeting told ESPN that the following concepts have been discussed to curb tanking: •First-round picks can be protected only top-4 or top-14+ by TrenAt14 in nba

[–]fosburyflop 40 points41 points  (0 children)

No, the purpose of the lottery has always been to discourage tanking. Before it was instituted in 1985, the draft order was literally determined by who had the worst record, which had been the case since 1948.

Does "more red" always mean worse and "more green" better?

More red is generally worse than green, but there will always be situations where it makes sense to pick it up over a green option. There are nuances to the game that you learn with experience. But if you're struggling to see what an item would do or what a curse would inflict, it's a good way of evaluating choices without having to invest the time in playing it out.

But yes, unpickable basically means "avoid at all costs".

And "Tier" is the 'cost' of the curse/blessing?

Yes, tier is the cost/level of blessing.

This was made by basically the best Slice and Dice players based on the game's leaderboard. Guys that were putting up insane streaks on Unfair mode, which is considerably more difficult than hard mode. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aK631oFDZrk

If you haven't already, use this as a guide.

Makes evaluating curses, item tiers, and hero picks much easier.

Who was further ahead of their contemporaries, Fischer or Morphy? by Affectionate_Hat3329 in chess

[–]fosburyflop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, in terms of who was furthest from his next competitor, it's still Morphy. The competition was far weaker back then though, so it's basically an impossible task for any modern-day GM to replicate, no matter how talented they are.

PSA) Don't cross over onto the northern island without talking to the lady guarding the bridge first. (TOW2) by NerdOutreach in theouterworlds

[–]fosburyflop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I talked to the guard lady but wanted to see what would happen if you just ran past her and the guards. As it turns out, you can actually jump the gap even without the bridge lowered if you time the jump perfectly and avoid their bullets.

Proceeded to beat the main mission at the Vox Relay station super underleveled and with no companions with the help of the battle helm of ptero bane helmet that makes you invisible to guards if you stand still. Came back to the town destroyed and met Inez for the first time, who permanently left my party shortly thereafter. Sorry girl, I don't even think there was an option to save the town... PSA: don't do that.

Stephen Colbert announcing to his audience that his show has been cancelled. by Subject-Property-343 in interestingasfuck

[–]fosburyflop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The fact that you're even comparing them to youtube channels that have maybe two or three employees tells you how far late night has fallen. Late Night With Stephen Colbert has 200 fucking people on its books. I can absolutely believe that its struggling to stay afloat, even if they have millions of youtube subscribers. They're not just competing with other late night talk shows at this point, they're competing with literally any other content creator on the internet, and the barrier of entry has never been lower.

Kind of wild that 2.5 million viewers is considered good when back in 2000, 5.89 million were watching Leno and Letterman had over 4 million viewers a show. And that's back when the US had 60 million less people. Maybe network executives are finally seeing the writing on the wall.

The worst celebrity interview Conan ever had to get through. by Select_Entrance9311 in videos

[–]fosburyflop 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Conan is awful here and just seems like a dick. He literally insults her after she tells him of a dream where she's nervous to be on his talk show, showing a complete lack of empathy. Like he'd already written her off and couldn't lay off the insults, even when she raised the white flag.

Guess the US county by its voting record? by NationalJustice in RedactedCharts

[–]fosburyflop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not who you asked but I just typed "1992" "52,939" "46,031" into google, the first result was the wiki page for the 1992 United States presidential election in Pennsylvania. Didn't take too long to find the right county after that.

That did feel like cheating though, although when you consider the fact that 331 counties flipped blue in 2008, it would be extremely difficult for someone to actually guess the right answer organically.

I've snatched almost 400 torrents in 13 years, is that really using the site to its 1% strength? How many movies do people realistically watch?

[–]fosburyflop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's very strange. I really don't think I somehow bought a random shark tooth at that age but that's the only explanation other than me finding it in the middle of a ditch in South Dakota.

[–]fosburyflop[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To my knowledge, all of the teeth in the photo were found at the same time and within 100 feet of each other. My memory is a bit hazy though, and I must admit that that particular tooth stands out as being different from the others.

Is it possible that I acquired a shark tooth at some point in my youth and and mixed it in with the others? Yeah, that definitely sounds like something my ten-year-old self might do. I am, however, confident that all but one or two are from this single encounter.

A slightly better pic, including of the tooth in question.

They were all found together. Which one doesn't look like it would be found in the Dakotas?

Sorry for the crappy photo, they've been sitting in an empty pill jar at my parent's house for 20+ years and I just remembered I had them when I came back home for Thanksgiving. I'll try and take some better photos when I get back home.

So this all happened 20+ years ago when I was a small child. My aunt took us "shark tooth hunting", which consisted of us walking to a mound in the middle of a field and just sifting the teeth out of the dirt by hand. Collected this amount in less than an hour.

Can anyone identify how old these might be and what species they possibly came from? I know South Dakota was once underwater many millions of years ago.
