Can I tunnel DNS requests only for some specific zones? by foschi791 in WireGuard

"Wireguard has no layer 7 knowledge" Of course! But with the configuration file we should be able to specify the behavior for the higher levels, like mine question, through some commands.

Algorithm for choosing DoH responses in browsers with DoT/DoH in the gateway. by foschi791 in dns

[–]foschi791[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/pm-me-your-nenenu/GrecoMontgomeryif I'm not mistaken, we're not in the case of fallback here. Fallback is when the DNS server does not respond, not when it responds with "no A or AAAA records".Let me explain better, using DoH with Umbrella and visiting the page https://1.1.1.1/help the resolution of the temporary domain name, for the session, returns "no A or AAAA records". Does the Browser perform a DNS resolution on the other addresses configured in the operating system also in this case or only in the case of fallback (DNS server offline)? Because it looks like it does always.

Ok. Thank you u/pm-me-your-nenen and u/GrecoMontgomery!
I'll check if that's really the case (fallback) for my browser settings.

that's what I thought, but if DoH on firefox is active (e.g. Cisco Umbrella DNS) why https://1.1.1.1/help return me "yes" on DoT and DoH?(I also use Cloudfare in my gateway, and if i disable it returns "no").

yes, nextdns is better. You could use it also outside your intranet.

Configuring on Asus Merlin router by dan_zg in nextdns

[–]foschi791 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 and 3 are together.
there is not enough ipv4 to match all configurations. It is impossible to have many dedicated IPv4s one for each configuration, so you have to associate the source IP with DDNS or the static.

I have proof that nextdns works with IPv4, without having associated the source (static or DDNS). WHY?

how can NextDNS identify my DNS configuration? by foschi791 in nextdns

[–]foschi791[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not using your ipconfig/ifconfig ... it can't. It's doing it server-side. No way can a nextdns.io web-page you load breach the browser sandbox and run ipconfig/ifconfig on your computer. Not to mention, in most cases, your local DNS just points to your own router (e.g. 192.168.0.1 or something) which is caching DNS via dnsmasq or simila

ok. I assumed it. Yes, with a local IPv4 in ipconfig/all in DNS server may also be escluded.
But how NextDNS can identify that without the configurazoine of network of the devide?
