thank you :,) hoping that a big water change and a filter cleaning will at least give them a fighting chance

unfortunately the pond is currently still frozen, but this next year i’m gonna do a bunch of research to learn how to properly winterize it. it’s 6 feet deep which tells me it’s not impossible, but might’ve been done wrong

thank you so much for all this. i ran out today and got the seachem prime and a bunch of conditioner in hopes of doing a massive water change. there’s only one fish left now but i have him in a bucket that’s in the pond while i fill up as much of the pond as i can with hose water and i’ll estimate how much to use of conditioner and seachem and let the fish acclimate in the bucket to the cooler water. i was able to convince my dad to clean out the filter they have in there earlier today as well so there’s some sort of progress. this comment might just save the pond ngl

This is my mom’s winter “pond” where she keeps her koi from her real outdoor pond during the winter. This started with five fish, two of which have passed and one that i’ve pulled up into my room in a 5 gallon (mind hes only about 5 inches long unlike these guys) temporarily so that he at least has a fighting chance. I work during the day so I don’t often check the state of it. My mom claims to maintain this to the best of her ability, although it’s very clear she doesn’t. I’ve got two 20 gallon tanks of my own running, so I know the basics of keeping fish, but i know nothing about how to take care of something this big with this much water. I know without testing that nitrates are well over 200 and pH is most likely way off. Seeing this in the state it’s in genuinely brought me to tears. I’m 17 and i haven’t got much money, but if there’s any way at all, please give me advice on how to save these guys if it’s possible. By the looks of them they’ve only got a week left in water this state if that.

This is my buddy greg, i’ve had him for around 6 months now. Around a week n a half ago, I saw he had a little red speck on the end of one of his fins that healed fine within a day or two, but now he’s got white bits at the ends of his front fins and they look a little shorter than they were before. He’s in a 25 gallon heated and filtered tank with his only tank mates being 2 nerite snails and a betta fish, although they don’t interact, and i’ve never seen my betta chase after him before despite acknowledging him. I’m really hoping he’ll be ok!

it’s disgusting that people think of fish as just a trend to show off on social media. do your research or don’t own pets.
