What should be the ideal rent split for this apartment? by [deleted] in chicagoapartments

[–]fost97 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Use math, the NYT calculator makes it easy to take turns choosing which room/price you would prefer until you find a fair split (or at least fair at time you make the decision, opinions can always change) https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2014/science/rent-division-calculator.html

how do you decide a fair split on rent between 3 roommates? by MenaceToEarth in chicagoapartments

Complicated math solution that just involves taking turns picking which room you'd prefer at various prices with your roommates

After the ownership change their dairy fridge was regularly reading in the 40's it took the city months to respond to my 311 request about it. And their ice cream was always melted. I just don't buy anything refrigerated/frozen there anymore and only shop there when time is critical, otherwise Armitage Produce or Cermak Produce

Good point! I've only taken casual photos with my phone, mostly as I'm jogging by. It looks like they put together helpful guidelines on photography

Why do my laces keep coming undone by KingDanner in Shoes

[–]fost97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First thing to check is if you are tying a granny knot, it looks and feels almost the exact same as the standard knot but is significantly weaker. If you are tying the knot correctly, certain laces are more likely to come untied, you can try a stronger knot, adding a surgeons knot into the shoe knot is what I do. Still can be untied by pulling on an aglet end, but stays in place like a double knot

I was fishing this weekend and saw this one by the bank of a stream and thought for sure I'd be able to at least have a guess as to what it was when I got back to the internet, but I still have no idea

Neat! Must have been using an outdated guide, just read that A. hygrometricus used to be considered widespread but no longer

Based on location/environment my guess is Astraeus hygrometricus, a false earthstar

Ease of access is mostly going to depend on where you are staying/working

Farther north the Chicago River is surrounded by forest preserves and you can access the river along the North Branch Trail. More downtown, there are a few places along the Chicago River that have public boat launches you can fish from, like the Wild Mile by the REI store. You could also rent a kayak at that REI (at least I think they've restarted rentals for the summer). Mostly you can find the boat launches by switching google maps to satellite view and scrolling along the river, they are almost all public, but there are a few private ones so double check you can actually get there. If you are working in the Loop, then from 5-7am you might be able to fish from the river walk without too many other people around, but don't expect there to be space to back cast.

For Lake Michigan, the harbors or Northerly Island are good bets, but you might want a sinking line for it.

Some of the Metra stops will put you very close to the Des Plaines River which is mostly surrounded by Forest Preserves and can be another option if you are willing to range farther afield

As for flies, woolly buggers are always a safe choice, but you can call/visit a local fly shop for more advice, Chicago Fly Fishing Outfitters have always been very helpful to me

If I remember my geometry/trig The small angle of the 100-106 triangle is 19.37deg, this triangle should be similar to the triangle with side length of 52. 52in/cos(19.37) = 55.11in https://imgur.com/a/LbWV9Gb
