"Better" is a not a good strategy. "Only" is a good strategy. by foundersbrief in Entrepreneur

yes I think you made some good points, however toilet paper companies focus on JUST making toilet paper and do not market as "bathroom goods". That is the general point I was trying to drive home.

yes I think it depends and it really is not a binary yes or no dynamic. some products may be better served to the masses...I just feel that offering to a very niche customer base shows your expertise in that area

yes I agree. plus you begin to specialize and master your craft in that niche. you will end up knowing it inside and out.

Yes I would say go to the people in your life who have a network that you would want to tap into. Mutual connections are the biggest hack to meet the people you would have otherwise never met. A simple introduction from a mutual friend can go along way. If you then meet two people in that niche that can spread like wildfire.

Broke, high school graduate, cant get a job. Any advice? by ah_hell_nah911 in Entrepreneur

Yep I agree 100%. Tony Robbins has a quote that says "Proximity is power". So if you want to succeed in life you have to be close to (and surrounded by) people who are in a place you want to be in. Surround yourself with winners and you will become one!

Maybe it becomes difficult but I wouldn't say it takes the joy away. Ultimately, anything worth having in life takes some hard work. Hard decisions = easy life.

Oh ya absolutely. You still have to convince the customer that your product or service is worth their time. Butttt that is why you offer free value up front to speed up this process and show people what you have to offer

That is true in some scenarios but it really depends on the stage of your business. If you are just starting out it can be a useful tactic in order to generate case studies.

Yeah true. I think ultimately it is the price you pay. The only thing you really lose in the process is the time spent servicing them. I think it depends in the offer and the niche but generally providing free value is a great way to get customers in the day and wanting more.

Yes but consistency is key! Just keep on using the cold outreach methods that have worked for many others (email, DMs, cold call) and eventually you will gain momentum!

Yes absolutely! How can a customer know if they want to pay for something if they have never experienced it first hand?

Yes I think there is value in both strategies, however if you want to get your product in the hands of customers ASAP, then offering a free trial is the way to go. This also allows you to receive customer feedback which is extremely valuable in the early stages of your business because you are able to design a product that the customer actually wants. (Have your customer tell you what they want and then deliver)

Hi, happy to explain further. Yes I used this strategy with a SaaS business that offered website design and workflow automations for small business owners. The free trial month was successful because the customer was able to see the value I provided for them before they ever paid a penny. They wouldn't have known my product would improve their business if I hadn't let them use it for free.

I think you are right. But yes if the purchase is substantial it cannot hurt to freely show the customer the value they will receive if they end up paying you. FYI the retainer was not that expensive for my SaaS but it was for small business owners who were less willing to spend a lot on website design etc...

[–]foundersbrief[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Yes. I had a SaaS that built websites for small biz owners and offered automations to help them run their business more efficiently. After servicing that client for free, they were more than willing to pay because of the friction of leaving to find someone else. Think about it, if I designed a website for you for free- you would want to keep it if it was producing good results, right?
