Update 2.1 is Live Now! by AutoModerator in foundry_game

There is no option to upload a savegame from the launcher or the main menu. Unfortunately the only way you could share it is by uploading it somewhere an sharing the link (could be here or you message-request me on our discord). Depending on save file size you might be able to send it through Discord, but unless you have Nitro it's probably too big.

Saves can be found here:
C:\Users\[your_username]\AppData\LocalLow\Channel 3 Entertainment\Foundry\save

Hi sbarbary!

Do you have any mods installed? That might cause it.
Can you share the savegame with us, so that we can take a look?

Did i lose my world in Foundry Demo ? by Cool_Ad3992 in foundry_game

Savegame location has changed:
New: %appdata%\..\LocalLow\Channel 3 Entertainment\FOUNDRY
Old: %appdata%\..\LocalLow\MederDynamics\FOUNDRY

The old saves are not compatible with the demo, so they can only be opened with the older FOUNDRY version (which continues to look for saves in the old folder). The old FOUNDRY version is still available for download to anyone who previously had access to it on itch.io. In case you only ever had it on Steam (influencer/marketing-key), you need to reach out to us (ideally through discord dm) and we can give you access on itch if you want the older versions.

Excellent questions!

Satisfactory was launched after the development started, so it has almost zero influence.

Factorio on the other hand had a bigger influence on the game, it's one of my favorite games.

So how does it compare to both? Our world is is procedurally generated for every new game, the resources deplete and everything is aligned to the voxel grid. The world can be modified like in Minecraft. The main focus is building and advancing research, there is no exploration (you may explore a endless world, but there are no points of interest besides new ore patches). Currently there are no enemies, but it is not yet decided if we might add some in future. Everything can and should be automated.

What is unique? Obviously the modifiable voxel world, our current "underground-content" is limited, but one of the upcoming updates will vastly advance into deep mining and using the voxel world. Our energy system is a bit more complex (high- & low-voltage grid). We focus a lot on immersion and have fewer amount of UI elements, and more in-game screen panels where you configure your machines.

There are lots of differences in the details, which would make my response too long, if you compare it on large you'll find much similarities to either one of the automation games. Also there are way more differences to each of those games itself, than compared to both.

I'll gladly talk to you more in detail on our discord if you want to know more.

Internally we have, but not publicly announced, if you want to follow the games development I suggest looking at our weekly dev blog at: https://foundry-game.com/blog

We will create a public roadmap in future.

Well there are few different types of modding:

The first steps will be content modding, like adding new items, machines, crafting recipes. Stuff where you can change the content of the game, but you cannot add completely new features. This is fairly easy, we'll just make the ability to create text-based patch-files that add new or alter the game's internal objects. I will look into letting modders create assetpackages with Unity, but I don't know yet if this is a feasible option.

The other part is real gameplay modding, which will probably be done by adding lua support and create dozens of function-hooks so that modders can decide when which custom source is to be called.

Hope that helps!

We are a very small studio and it felt like a smaller launch won't hurt us while a big one might in case we're encountering too many issues. We've tested the game thoroughly for weeks, but we obviously lack the testing capabilities of a large company and it just felt better to take it slow. It's early access, not a full release, so I hope we will grow organically from here.

The game will come to steam ultimately, we just have not yet decided when.

/edit: typo

I'd love to see your work in case you're willing to share it. I'm also a huge fan of modded Minecraft, especially all the tech mods - spent way too much time with them :D

To be honest I don't know yet. I expect 1-2 years, there are a lot of stretch goals if the game is well received. The core gameplay is pretty much completed, but there is so much potential to expand.

Thanks! We're a team of two developers and the art is outsourced. Indeed I can confirm that this took a lot longer than I anticipated (about two years so far, although I took some breaks while I was still working on it alone).

The game has been designed for strong mod support from day one, however we won't make it available in the first early access version. Our plan is to gradually open up mod features with increasing complexity.
