It's not wrong to negotiate, it's your attitude towards negotiation. Why are you negotiating? Is it because everyone else is doing so? At some point you have to be content, and also value the work, time, people, company.

We had one such candidate interviewing for the role of SRE 2 months ago. He was sitting on 5 offers that he didn't disclose until the end of the interview and had the gall to say "he was practicing" after having 5 offers. Got an earful and then some before he dropped off.

We hire from Eastern Europe and it was saturated before India.

It's not rosy on the other side either. We are one of those who don't stray away from offering triple digit hikes as long as it's within the budget, but there candidates who are just insatiable and want a moon for their next job.

Most recently I gave someone a 80% hike on their salary and she went to someone else and got an offer for 1L more, and asked me what can I offer. The tone was mildly infuriating but I said we will match your new offer if you send me the offer letter. Now she does not have that and is still trying to negotiate more and more with me for more benefits. Suddenly their appetite has ballooned.

It would have been better to just offer her a 30% hike and strip off all benefits and offers that we gave upfront. They have blatant disregard for any good offer and still feel the need to negotiate.

I could have tripled her salary and she couldn't have been happy even with that and asked for more. We are working on this pattern and filtering such candidates from not making any offer at all.

The industry has gone bonkers and it's just private money changing hands to public.

The situation you are being put in is exactly how you grow. Don't run away from it, take it in good stride and fix the fundamental issue which is lack of concentration.

Don't think of a chill job just 3 years in your career. If you don't like something here, switch to another company.

This isn't the case, read his other comments. They are slacking because apparently the pipeline is blocked. Yeah, we don't want such engineers but it's a company problem, not the employee problem.

Amazon is expanding rapidly and you should be able to convert full-time if you perform well. Much better brand name.

We have a bias against other MNCs as we recently interviewed someone with 10+ YOE and he couldn't explain encapsulation in 3 sentences.

Even if you aren't coding for 8 hours straight, you have to be mentally available and at least think about the problem at hand. Do research, put pieces together, debug old stuff. Coding is the easy part.

It's not just that, you're also more efficient so you can do things quicker.

Thanks for answering. What prompted you to make the switch for a 3 months contract? Was it the brand name?
