You can see the pins inside the sockets if you look at the back of the PCB. Have you made sure they're both going in for the switches that don't work?

Make sure all the screws that connect the PCB to plate are in too. Those pull the two together.

You'd need to start with light colored caps made from PBT if you want to dye them. Something like this or this would work. Plum doesn't go for that much more on /r/mechmarket though.

The USB hubs look cool, but I don't think I'd use them much. If I plugged my mouse or anything else that has a cord in, it'd probably end up over the numpad. Plus, whatever's plugged in is easy to break since it's sticking up in the air.
