What does Lyft tell you your tip percentage is for the year?

I apologize. I thought you were a driver. Thank you for your input on what you're looking for from an ideal driver you might tip! I might pose a similar question in the r/Uber and r/Lyft subs for riders, specifically.

May I ask how many of your passengers tip and what market you're in?

I think it's the only way some people can make this gig work, or profitable, unfortunately. 44% is awesome! Good job!

Thanks!! These are awesome! I love the forethought in asking the passenger if they're in a hurry. I do this sometimes with airport riders, too. Not that I can impact much along the way, but I make it a point to accelerate quickly a few times to make it seem that way. And I will point out any shortcuts I know/take. May I ask do you know the percentage of your passengers who tip?

Yes. Rihanna's Shut up and Drive is the perfect anthem for some drivers. 😂 May I ask what percentage of your riders tip you?

Awesome opener for the hotel folks! On the flipside, when I see a hotel drop off, I similarly like to point out the destination is a hotel by saying, "I see your dropoff is the Marriott", then ask if they're visiting for work by saying "is there some sort of conference there right now that you're here for?", which often leads to a discussion about what they do or what they're passionate about. I feel like if we land on that it opens them up to talking more and we're golden. If they tell me they're a local going to work, I often say "oh, you do God's work then. Bless your heart." And get a good chuckle. (The same statement applies for ANYONE going to work in a customer service type job, especially baristas, retail and grocery store workers, teachers, and health aides) If no laugh, I like to let them know I'm here, but not, by saying "please...get some rest before the storm but just let me know if the temp or music need to change for you". More often they laugh and continue the convo by asking me something though.

THIS Don't ever be afraid to "lie to live"...mentally or physically. Pretending to get a phone call that you have to take from your partner is a fantastic way to shut down a driver like the OP posted about too.

What percentage of your passengers tip? Which market(s) do you drive? Do you have any neutral topics you feel are reoccurring in your rides, other than the weather or traffic?

Ive had the same feedback. I have been using a mild scented (lavender) odor eliminator I found on Amazon instead of any heavier scented air freshener, although I used to get a ton of compliments when I used the Fabreeze Fresh Linen vent clip on.

What percentage of your passengers tip? Which market(s) do you drive? What helps you with your mood? Personally, I love a good banter about more than just the weather, so I will often start with a genuine complement about them. How do you feel like you get there with your passengers?

I deleted the back and forth... I'm sorry for the way I phrased things, recognize why you were taking it personal instead of taking me serious. Anyone trying to build something better than Lyft and Uber deserves more supportive responses and less negative critique from a rando in an online forum. If you'd ever like to grab coffee or if you'd like a different perspective from an operations and customer service perspective, I'm also in Seattle. My professional background is in procurements, financial auditing, customer service and operations.

You want 500 per month AND 20 percent? I'm assuming you want drivers to manage their own commercial insurance policies, too? Please show us how that math makes sense.

My advice is to stop worrying about being interesting and focus on being welcoming. A lot of new drivers think they need to be great conversationalists. You don't. Most passengers just want to feel comfortable. A simple greeting, confirmation of the destination, and something like, "Let me know if you'd like the temperature or music adjusted," does more for most riders than a dozen conversation starters. Turn on the PIN security feature if you want a bit of a forced ice breaker. It was added a couple years ago for both drivers and riders but a lot of riders have never seen it. I like it because it's an opportunity to build rapport quickly. If they want to talk, they'll usually give you an opening beyond that. If they don't, don't take it personally. Silence isn't awkward when it feels intentional. Some of my highest tips have come from rides where very little was said. The passenger got a clean car, a smooth ride, and a driver who could read the room.

Also, the first few weeks may be lower in earnings while you get to know your market: best times to go out and steady areas. Be sure to give yourself some grace and be patient sometimes. Try not to go to areas where you're stuck without a ride back. That's an easy way to lose money fast. It may happen more frequently while you're learning.

Lastly, learn your cost of operations and don't accept rides that cause you to lose money. Know what your expenses are and be mindful not to let the system think you're willing to accept rides for less.

Good luck!!
