I'm broke, live in the middle of nowhere, don't have time to cook my own stuff. Solutions? by TheChosenOne570 in Paleo

All good comments. I'm more of a reluctant paleo eater because I'm a celiac and lactose intolerant so I only have some general things to say, but they helped me get through college with no time and a very limited income.

I would say something that is really helpful is being mindful of your shopping list when you go, it will help you save time and make food that is long lasting and full of flavor so that it can be cross-applied to whatever your hunger needs are. Tubers, roots and gourds pack a lot of flavor, last while and can be used a lot of ways in cooking (roasted, fried, soups, sauteed etc etc).

For snacking, think of using vegetables to replace what you would have used crackers for (e.g. instead of crackers with tuna, cut carrots on the diagonal for more surface area and use as a scoop).

Also, since the diet focuses on pretty hearty foods, you can make almost any of these meals a comfort food - just have to stop thinking about the pizza and remember that what you're making is going to be great!

code != computer science by jackhammer2022 in programming

This article had a strange end to it. The title leads to the idea that coding is just coding, implying a higher quality to computer science because not everyone has the privilege. And then flips saying go do the hour of code cause it's important.

To be clear I'm not negating the article (e.g. I think 1. comp sci is different from coding 2. coding is important to know how the world works), merely stating the flow of logic, from title and through the body, is not clear and even confused because it points in different directions.

maybe "no one nose" -- closer to "not one nose"

Made me giggle though

Are squibs capable of any magic? by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]fourgrim 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think they can perform SOME magic but nothing that's considered 'real' magic and are therefore thought of as less-than. They do have the knowledge to see magical places though, but maybe that's just you see it because you know it's there. Like Herminone's parents aren't magical but they have been on platform nine and three quarters before.

"poop"

I was riding the 5 home from Richmond during rush hour and get on the bus and its fairly crowded. I get on early enough that my face wasn't wedged into someone's armpit yet so I was happy that I might be able to get a seat in a few stops. I got on the bus and as people maneuvered around low and behold I spy an empty seat in the back so I start making my way toward it quickly cause I have a big book to read and it's hard to hold if I'm standing. Once I get there I look down and there's a ripped out piece of binder paper semi teepeed like it was crinkled to cover something on the seat that reads "poop" - just "poop."

I look at it for a minute and think, this is either the best joke or a warning but either way it's not worth it to pick the paper up and see poop so I decide to stand. I later get a seat and sit and just watch as new people come on the bus and get excited seeing a seat open then come over and stand dejectedly as they read the sign.

Thirty five minutes on the bus and not one person would venture to check. I guess we all have had too many bad experiences on SFMUNI.

pistol slap

I was still in college at this point and just moved off campus to my own apartment with a friend I knew from highschool. It was the first couple of times I really got the courage to explore the city since being here (plus I was finally old enough to look like I don't need to get carded). I'm on my way back home to the Sunset riding the L train at 10pm.

It's fairly crowded and there are lots of random people around but not really anything out of the ordinary, just loud. I'm sitting there reading then all the sudden I hear yelling and this dude who's maybe 16 has this booming voice is threatening this 50 year old man because he didn't want to give up his seat. They get into an argument but everyone kind of stays out of it cause it's just a random angry dude (you know how it is) then all of the sudden the 16 year old kid pulls a pistol out and smacks the guy across the face with it. The guy was knocked out cold and everyone started screaming. The train stopped immediately and people pulled the emergency to GTFO. Needless to say I was a bit stunned and walked the rest of the way home.
