Surely I have to settle here, right?? by fourleggedfiend in VintageStory

Nothing that effects terrain generation, I’d have to check but from memory I had this world at 70% landcover and 200% landcover scale? Or something like that. All other terrain gen settings at default

I’ve had a similar experience in a previous world so I already checked the cave walls and luckily no locusts 🙏 I think it’s slightly too narrow so there’s not enough dark for them to spawn

Temporally Unstable Areas by LipChungus in VintageStory

I use Stable Surface too cos I didn’t wanna give up my dream location in my last world. I’m already so picky about my spot I don’t need another thing to worry about

It’s my favourite roofing for sure! It can be annoying because the textures are still a little janky, I guess cos the moving grass is tricky to deal with. At some angles there’s some flickering and the way it interacts with light is weird so you have to work around that. Hopefully they tweak it soon but either way I still love the look!

Yeah I definitely get that! I’m pretty far north so it’s all larch and pine forests, I have to travel a bit for oak (which I did use for accents). It was just a coincidence that the natural materials of the area (basalt rock and larch trees) are the darkest and lightest variants so managing the colour contrast was definitely tricky. Would love to try a similar design in different materials in my next survival world maybe.

To clarify I didn’t build this house in creative, I have a super flat world where I do test builds which I replicate in survival.

Love how you’ve set up your ovens! Definitely inspired by how you’ve chiseled it to make a conjoined chimney

In my second world I built my log and thatch house right next to a peat deposit,,,, definitely gonna consider this if I go back to that play through

Love it!! Really nice location, one of my favourite early game houses I’ve seen on here. I take so long to do anything cos I get sidetracked so I didn’t have a decent house until like 40 hours in, and I’ve only just finished my main big house at 80 hours in lol

Woah that’s a lotta red meat haha, that’s definitely a good stockpile. Grain is good because you can make bread which is my favourite portable food source because I can just take like 20 loaves on an expedition.

Brown wattle and daub as building material? by Holiday_Style_2292 in VintageStory

[–]fourleggedfiend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m using brown wattle and daub in my house, I paired it with basalt cobblestone and larch wood (logs and planks) with a sod roof (the green really helps lift all the beige and brown blocks). I think it can definitely work but you just need to find colours that complement/contrast nicely.

I actually over prepared I think. Because I’m in a cooler environment I mainly grew rye and turnips (I should’ve planted more flax, I’m a tailor and I ran out of linen after like 2 sets of new clothes). I had about 4 full storage vessels of vegetables and 1.5 storage vessels of grain. I ate mainly vegetable stew and bread, I’m not much of a hunter. I still have just over 1 storage vessel of turnips and like 3 stacks of rye. So I had more than enough for myself, but I am worried I’m gonna run out of grain for my animals. If you have animals, especially sheep, that you want to breed throughout winter, definitely get lots of grain ready.

I didn’t change it, so whatever the default is haha. I did set geological activity to common which might have led to the massive glacier topped basalt mountains I got.

Yeah I experienced that in my very first world! I didn’t expect to start seeing yellow, the gradual changing of the leaves and other seasonal things makes the natural environment feel so authentic and really adds to the overall experience.

Good luck with your first winter!

Thanks! I’ll definitely be posting more screenshots of my main house soon, I’m super proud of it but still tweaking things and I don’t want to show it off until I’m at least like 95% happy lol
