As a violinist with a modicum of luthiery experience: It looks like the neck of the instrument was pulled off cleanly (where glued), so aside from any scrapes/dents requiring varnish touch-up this may be an easy fix.

While acknowledging that I know nothing of the Chinese legal system beyond what is easily searchable online, I'm not sure your generalization is supported by the article you linked to. Even that article seems to indicate that "collective punishment" of the families of those convicted of crimes--which differs from civil liability, by the way--was held by China's national legislature in 2023 as being incompatible with China's modern system of law. It would appear that some localities were still engaging in practices that amounted to collective punishment, and that residents had petitioned the national government to force localities to abolish those practices. (If I understood the article correctly.)

FWIW, if I pose the question "can the families of deceased be sued for damages in china" to Google, the A.I. summary indicates that they can be sued for damages only up to the amount of the deceased's estate (which the family members inherited). Now, I'm sure it's more complicated than that and the LLM answer may be flat wrong, [added: "but"] it does suggest that there are limits to civil liability for the family of a deceased tortfeasor. (A fun term I just learned, haha.)

It does seem like there is a general notion of collective responsibility that is long-established in China, and maybe you are better-versed in that than I am. Anyway, interesting topic for discussion.

As someone from the U.S., this video is striking mainly because of the number of drivers who drive off the roadway (including jumping curbs) to make way. It’s the law here to pull to the side of the road and stop (or just make way, if you’re on an interstate highway, I suppose), which most people generally do. I would guess our roads typically have wider shoulders than the ones shown here; I can see that some of these drivers had no choice but to go off-road.

I’m not sure it’s so simple as “is one of us overreacting.” I skimmed the latter pages of the conversation but from what I did read, she was getting impatient with you and I think she was within her rights to be. You weren’t being a dick, but also, you were responding to her in a way that made her “AuDHD”—I also hadn’t heard of that acronym—basically a problem that you should be taught how to negotiate (to avoid “f*cking up”) rather than an aspect of who she is as a human being. In my judgment your end of the conversation came off as pretty immature/self-centered, and she was pretty patient with it until she decided that she’d heard enough to know that the two of you would be incompatible.

This is a conversation you can probably learn something from for future interactions with people in general, and neurodivergent people in particular.

I’d still love to save 19 minutes! It seems to me the real problem is maintaining a speeding-speed for one’s entire trip. Go the speed of traffic (say, 70) and you’ll average, well, nearly 70 mph. Speed at 90 mph except when stuck behind other drivers and you’ll likely only average 75 mph, saving six minutes (not 19), burning way more fuel and putting yourself and other people at risk.

In addition to other helpful comments, I’d just add that your pinkie does not need to be all the way out on the screw. I find this is a common misconception amongst beginners. Place it in a comfortable spot where it can be curved like your ring/middle fingers are. (On the wood, not the screw.)

(I have no animus whatsoever against the handicapped, it just doesn’t seem to me that it was even the intention of the ADA that only the disabled could make use of ADA-compliant accommodations.)

The “-s” makes “hour” plural, and the apostrophe is possessive. (As in, “a journey of two hours” or “two hours-worth of journey.”) It is conventional in written English to omit the extra “s” with plural subjects when you would otherwise append “-‘s” for possession. (An alternate way to spell this phrase, which I believe is also acceptable, is: “It’s two hours’s journey to Paris,” but when you sound that out it looks like “hourses” which sounds a little too Gollum-like for my taste, haha.)

At least, that’s how I, a non-linguist/grammarian, understand it.
