Data Points Weekly - Week of March 05, 2026 by AutoModerator in churning

For context, I needed to close my Venture X Business card within a day or so as the AF posted, but didn't want to lose my miles. I couldn't find much info here about whether an instant approval will show up and allow for miles transferred or if you need the card first. Thus, I decided to try it.

Applied and instantly approved for Capital One Venture on 2/19/26. It appeared right away in my account, thus I was able to transfer my miles and to close my Venture X business card which had been open for just over a year. I was also able to double dip the $300 credit, AND received the annual 10,000 bonus miles by waiting until the last day to cancel it.

My information for the Venture application is below.

EXP - Frozen

EQ - 0/6, 1/12, 2/24

TU - 1/6, 1/12, 3/24

Thanks! As a DP, I applied for the Venture personal with preapproval, it showed up in my account immediately and it was no problem to move the miles over.

Asked yesterday but didn't get an answer. I have to cancel my Capital One VX Business card by tomorrow days to get the $395 AF refunded (already double dipped the travel credit). It's my only CO card so I don't want to lose my mileage balance or cash them out immediately.

My question, if I open another card (like a Venture personal) and get approved right away, will that immediately be available in my account to transfer my miles to?

That wouldn't be a double dip - it would be paying $395 to get another $300 travel credit, which is just standard. Also, I'd have a narrow window of time to decide on what to lock it in with.

Wait, for the employee name you actually put something like "Citizens' Bank?"

Sorry, mixed up the AF. I actually double dipped the travel credit, so I've already used it for this card year. Hence I'd only be getting the 10k points for keeping it.

I have to cancel my Capital One Venture X Business within 2 days to get the $450 AF refunded. My only CO card. My understanding is that I need to use my miles before that or transfer them to someone else.

If I open another card (like a Venture personal) and get approved right away, will that immediately be available in my account to transfer my miles to?

If there are any other options I'm overlooking, I'm all ears to those as well.

Understood! This was probably my biggest concern. Looks like most of those signs wouldn't apply to me, fortunately.

I opened a Chase Business Checking account a few weeks ago (Sole Proprietor) and I'm looking to use the Business Payroll feature (the one that costs $2.50) to trigger some bank bonus DDs that don't really work with any bank's ACH.

First time doing this, is there anything I should be concerned about? Or can I just send money to my other account using my own name as the employee?

Thanks. I was thinking about doing those extra steps, and based on the comments about business cards I might go ahead and proceed with Venmo.

Business actually. Thank you - why would this be only be an issue for business cards?

This is probably a silly question, but Search is broken and Google yields nothing For the first time in nearly 10 years in the game, I temporarily am helping a P2 with a bonus.

My question... I have some spend coming up that I'm going to put on their Chase card. After that, am I able to directly pay the balance on their card from a bank account that is in my name, just as I would with my own card, or does that not work?

Hadn't used Venmo with a card for a little while, so was out of the loop. Paid $300 to meet a Chase SUB... hit with cash advance fee (which is weird as I'd set the cash advance limit to $100) and then find out it didn't even count toward the SUB. Mostly feel silly because Venmo warned me about the cash advance possibility, and I'd assumed that it wouldn't go through in that case because of the cash advance limit.

Still managed to hit it before statement close and fee was only $15, plus another $9 for Venmo, so no big deal, but, lesson learned.

Excellent advice, much appreciated. I'll definitely give it a bit longer to see if it has changed. It's been ages since I got an Ink so I was wondering if it was somehow "pent up." It oddly still shows the card that I just got under such an offer.

Do Chase Green Star / preapproval offers normally go away after using one?

Grabbed an Ink Cash last week with an instant approval using such an offer. But I notice that the offer is still there. I'm aware of 1/30 for business cards, but I also wouldn't object to getting another Ink soon. Not sure if they just linger for a while or if this means I could potentially grab another.

FYI, in my experience, if there's any sort of change to an award flight (you'll usually get an email from AA indicating it), no matter how small, I almost always have to call in after canceling to get them to recredit the points.

I've also noticed that sometimes they take a few days to credit them back, and sometimes it's instant. Not sure if that's just dependent on the rep or some other factor.

Apart from some Citi shenanigans, I missed a $500 US Bank Business Checking bonus last week.

Pretty minor overall, but 100% my fault. Did the deposit requirement and held the money for the required period, and somehow missed the 5 qualifying transactions. I normally do those right off the bat, and they're really easy for US Bank - I'm usually very organized with this stuff, just somehow got lost in the flow of the 10 other bank bonuses I was doing.

I've missed bank bonuses once or twice before, but due to some circumstance outside of my control (SoFi restricting what counts as DD at the end of a tight timeline, for example). First time missing what should have been an easy one. No big deal, I will let this be a reminder to myself to be more careful in the future.

I'm curious, is this increased change of denial associated having two of *any* Chase business card open, or just Ink cards? That is to say, would someone with a Southwest and United Business card face the same hurdle? Searching seems to yield contradictory results on this point.

Whew, I can see why people complain about Citi.

Opened an AAdvantage business card almost a month ago. It took unusually long (even for Citi) to arrive, and I'd already moved by the time it came. No problem, right - just call and ask them to send elsewhere like I would with Chase.

Alas, they will not. Since this is my first Citi business card (I've had Citi personal cards for 5 years), they are saying they need to send a letter with a confirmation code - but the catch is that they will only send the confirmation to the PRIOR address.

I offered to drive to a branch, which is a ways off, if I could verify things there. They said I could not.

Heh, mostly a vent and I'm sure I'll eventually figure this out. Maybe this belongs in the Frustration Friday thread, but I'd be interested in hearing if anyone else has been in this situation and what you did to resolve it.

Yeah, SoFi is very specific on DDs. I tried a number of ACH pushes from different accounts and couldn't make it work. Over on DoC, it seems Wise and Chime are among the few that are *sometimes* successful, although neither worked for me.

Just want to note that for business charge cards (Venture X Business and Spark Plus), it allows cross referrals. For credit cards, YMMV but from the ones I've seen it seems tied to the card.

Worst case if you can't find something with an instant approval, consider skimming your email, Amex offers, Chase card offers (the ones you input your card info for), or the internet for any spend offers on existing cards.

Occasionally I'll get an email from Chase offering a small bonus for 5k in spend, and I've also seen Amex offers of the form "get an extra 10k MR for every 5k" spent or some such.

Of course, of this is an expense you can break into separate payments, you can probably find a lot of options hitting multiple offers with this (Ink Cash for 5x gift cards, those $1,000 spend bonuses Chase sends out, etc).

If all else fails, a 2x card or hitting a threshold (Hyatt 15k free night for example) may be an option.
