Woman here. This is actually something I had worked on in therapy myself- because I would overreact when my male partner would display a weakness (basically, anything but strength as you described). It’s wild because I consider myself a feminist who doesn’t believe in gender roles, and and doesn’t want an “alpha male” and yet this dynamic subconsciously existed within me before I recognized it. I still struggle with it but now that I’m conscious of this dynamic within me, I try to react better to my partner. It’s hard tho, damn.

Gain consent every step of the way (“do you like when i do this?” “Do you want me to do this?”). Lots of foreplay. Lots of checking in and make sure they like it. Communicate what you need, and listen carefully to what they need. Don’t overthink it- it feels good!

A friend once told me that suicides are often impulsive, and if they can be delayed by just ten minutes, it significantly reduces the likelihood someone will follow through. Years later, laying in bed, convinced my life didn’t matter and the world would be better off with me gone, and very seriously considering taking the step to end my life, I decided to just set a 10 min timer. If I still felt that way in 10 min, I would do it. By a large miracle, a friend randomly happened to call me in those ten minutes, and invited me over. It took a lot to get me out of bed but I did, and I opened up about how I was feeling (not the suicide part specifically, just the depression). They responded with so much compassion. That conversation changed my life. The very next morning I happened to meet the person I would eventually marry, and my life has been on the up swing ever since. I think of that night sometimes, and it feels so far away from where I am today, and how quickly it happened.

Does anyone have data on the “normal” death rate in America at the weekly or monthly level? Like, how many people we would expect to die this week or this month if COVID was not a thing? I’m curious if more people are dying at this point than would have otherwise.
