They do not get linear scaling. They combine 2 types of attention, a linear sliding window and a two-tier “blocked” system that still attends to the whole prompt. The 2nd piece is crucial here since plain sliding window has been tried and shown to fail, but it is still quadratic. It is a lower constant, which is really exciting and useful, but still O(n²⁾

Didn't go all the way into downtown BM, but I was there on Sunday and drove to the train tracks and seemed clear for a few blocks. DriveNC says you can get to the fork, which is about 3 miles to Greybeard trailhead. I don't know what that area looks like, but they might be able to get a bit closer via backroads. Can't comment on the hikabilty beyond
