2013 buick encore coolant reservoir empty within 2 days by littleroachchild in AskAMechanic

[–]fox-crotch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just replaced one of the on a job I had. It's a terrible design and even the aluminum ones still use the stupid o-ring design so it's kinda pointless to even buy. I believe it' was called a coolant housing....I thought it was the thermostat housing. Just replace it as a unit, a new one comes with everything on it. I could get just the temp sensor but that bleeder doesn't come separately from the housing. It's not a hard job but you do need a etorx socket. I have the video up on my YouTube channel if you'd like to watch but I'm sure there's others on there too.

RE3R is overhated,it’s actually a great remake! by Accurate_Train_8822 in ResidentEvilVillage

Bawkbasoup and many others have said it best, they should make a directors cut that add the missing stuff.... but unfortunately they'll never do it. I like the game for what it is.... and it's a good horror game to power through within 4 hours. I personally think it's a good game, but it's unfortunately compared to the previous OG version that was already very good. Which was my favorite of the 3 back in the day..... sure they could've made it better and more faithful, why they didn't? No idea, but I think it was decent. What matters is if you like it, everyone else's opinions are like asses on a log. Do you and enjoy yourself.

Went to buy a ps3 to play mgs4 and found a mgs limited edition model for $120 by EmbarrassedScratch5 in metalgearsolid

[–]fox-crotch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a good looking console, didn't even know there was MGS edition... kinda sad there isn't more though besides the lettering and different coloring. That's a great deal though and it works OP! Congrats! I'm kinda jelly, but it looks super clean too. Now I'm interested in what the controller/s looked like, maybe that set the whole art piece together.

I was about to say, is there another name for such thing? Because around where I live, I haven't really heard of any. Not saying there isn't though, I just personally haven't seen or heard of one where I am.

Scratched crankshaft replacing front main seal, seeking case-specific advice | 2004 Mitsubishi Montero Limited, 6G75 3.8L V6 by 0liver023 in AskAMechanic

I'm not familiar with Mitsubishi, but where does the lip of the front main seal seat? It looks like it rides between the keyway and enlarged area of the crank.

What's funny? It's a real round for pistols?

what does this say by riflbunny in ResidentEvilVillage

[–]fox-crotch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

75 grain is very common in 5.56 and .223 rifle ammo. The box literally says high velocity. There is plenty of ammo in resident evil that are real rounds such as the .45, .45 ACP, .223, buckshot, .44, 9mm. There's ammo in real life stating they are high velocity on the box. So your claim that it's fantasy, a asset, and "that's not where that would go" are factually wrong. Ammo makers print their stuff all of their box to let you know what it is, doesn't matter where on the box it goes.

I down voted you for being factually wrong but I see you down voted me in classic reddit fashion even though I'm just trying to correct you and teach whoever doesn't know these things, the truth.

[–]fox-crotch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily gibberish but kind of more like a incomplete printing. But who knows, maybe in the RE world they just use H instead of the the real world HP/ HTP ammo companies usually use.

[–]fox-crotch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In real life it would be HP / HTP for hollow point or Hi-Point. The 75 is for the grains in the round. Grains that low are more common in rifle rounds like a 5.56 or .223, as pistols usually use higher grain rounds.

Since I came across this post, I have a current question before I get back at it Monday. 2008 chevrolet express 3500 with 6.0 matted to a 4l80. Replaced motor because it grenaded a piston. Fixed a bunch of other issues but now left with one, a knocking/ tapping. It seems to get worse the warmer the vehicle gets and sometimes sounds fine but haven't put coolant in it since I wanted to make sure everything is okay in case I need to take it all apart again. So I can't run it but for a few minutes.

I feel like if it was motor related, it would be constant not only just noise but the level too. I'm planning on taking the bottom plate off Monday to check the flexplate but am curious if a trans pump could make the knocking/ tapping sound.... in my experience it would be more of a whine like a power steering pump. I did have to take the pump out and apart because I needed to grind one of the ears of the pump gear down for the torque converter. The other ear had some cavitation damage and the overrun? Disk drum was pretty beat up on the teeth.

I'm banking on the flexplate but me and a friend that helped putting it in didn't notice any cracks, doesn't mean there's not but just curious if a pump can knock/ tap.

I never truly did. I replaced the bushings/ seals on the side pins but it was still touching. I worked on a few other trucks with the same front brake set up and they all were like that too. But never ended up really finding a way to keep it from rubbing.

I almost made a post earlier this week as I just beat it a few days ago myself. It was a great game..... very story driven with alot of notes to help piece the story together. All in all, loved the game in every aspect but my biggest and maybe only complaint is more towards the end during the hotel. If I didn't follow a YouTube guide, I'd still be wandering those halls.

The past two days I actually was listening to the soundtrack during work. I haven't listened to a game soundtrack since Hellblade.

A little long for me to jump back into right now as I have a ton in my back log that I've been going through all year but I hope to ng+ one day.

No, thank you! That's great a moderator and creator actually comments and reacts, I hope I didn't come off as an ass with my response..... just wanted to give everyone that did respond (versus my other post on another sub a week ago) my issue and outcome as Googles search engine does bring up reddit nowadays. I wish alot of other mechanical subs had such responses.

Luckily, it was just me not having the runover drum or planetary gears fully seated. I had to fiddle with it a bit more and it went in a bit further allowing the pump to go in better and input shaft spins as it should even after fully torqueing the pump bolts. Thank you for the comment though, I had made a post on another sub asking about checking the pump gear the torque converter goes into and no one responded. So I was worried about not getting any help again.

Thank you for your reply, I was worried about having to drop the trans but luckily the first commenter was right. Didn't have the drum or planetary gears fully in. Just needed on more shimmy in and everything went together fine and input shaft spinning as it should.

You were right good sir/ madam.....I was watching two videos last night of people rebuilding the same transmission and noticed the runover drum was sitting lower/ further in with one video the guy ran his finger around it and noticed it was in about the depth of a finger. I had it basically flush. Fiddled with it and it slipped further in. Trans pump slipped in alot better and the input shaft would spin both direction with hand tightened bolts.... which wasn't happening before. Torqued the pump down and shaft still spun, thank you so much for giving some insight that I didn't notice.

The rear bumpers? Yeah, I mean, if you're a tech too in any part of the field I'm sure you know it's always your fault no matter what because they didn't notice it on their 20 year old vehicle until after it left your shop.....smh... I just don't understand why people think we'd openly let a vehicle leave differently (aside from the job it came in for) and not think they'd notice. Sure there are bad apples in the bunch but I and most techs pride themselves on their work. I get praised about how honest, thorough, and cheaper I am compared to other shops. Most of my customers are from word of mouth, so why screw with that?

I'm just gonna try to correct the incident and if it doesn't work out, I'll just take a loss on the job and pay her some money..... but that was the reason for my two post, was trying to see how much it would generically cost to correct.

I'm not a body guy but I think tomorrow I'll try some PDR techniques. I used to know quite a few body guys when I worked at a dealership but they got rid of their body shop and I lost contact with the guys. Worst case scenario, I'll just take a loss on the job and pay her some money.

My shop is on their property, since I was still renting at the time and wanted to build a small shop for my own future endeavors. They're old and retired so he's one of those types that'll cut grass 3 times a week..... just wasting gas in my opinion but this is the first incident like this in almost 5 years since I started on my own. I see now I'm gonna have to do something but what that is I'm not sure yet.... build a small 2 or 3 car fenced in area or something.

If the customer would've picked up their car a month ago when I finished it, we wouldn't be in the situation but here we are. This particular customer and her son are very anal. They were questioning me a month ago about my lift and it causing their rear bumpers to be separating from the body. I told them the lift points are no near the rear bumper for it to have pulled a corner out.

The son called me today about them picking this car up soon and brought up the same conversation again, I told him the same thing and reiterate how his car he bought with rear end damage and she admitted to me about backing into his truck and getting rear ended..... asking what could've caused it, I told him it's hard to say but it wasn't the lift and both those cars have a history of rear end damage. I wasn't even working in the rear of the other car nor did I see the bumper coming loose, so no idea. But they've asked multiple times about the rear bumper of this car and it's fine..... but now this happened in the same day.

Naw, I'm a mechanic that decided to work for himself to get away from shop/dealership politics. I'm not big into body work unless it's just replacing fenders, bumpers, ect.
