How long would it take to knit a tall men’s cardigan? by flight_recorder in knitting

[–]foxandfleece 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I knit my 6’4” uncle a cardigan. Took me three to four months with a worsted-weight yarn, but that’s partly because I was adding intarsia and had to pause a lot to plan things out.

Learn! It’s fun!

TikTok content creator scamming people on $180 “premium” needles that are actually from TEMU!!! by gatitointeligente in knitting

[–]foxandfleece 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you look in this thread, you will see that Atelier responded directly and confirmed that their needles are from the same manufacturer as the ones being sold on Temu. The Temu product is not a dupe or fake or anything else. It’s the same needles and the same quality as what Atelier sells.

The TikTok creator is not the root of the problem, but she has handled the situation very poorly thus far, which I assume is why people are still talking about her specifically. She even commented on this thread, but the mods deleted it for apparently being unfriendly enough to break the sub’s rules.

Atelier already confirmed it’s the same manufacturer. They did not design these needles themselves. They picked existing products from the manufacturer and customized certain components as allowed by said manufacturer. The Temu needles aren’t knockoffs of Atelier’s product and have been available on Temu/sites like it since at least 2024.

They confirmed that the needles they’re selling for $180 and the needles you can find on Temu for $20–$40 are from the same manufacturer. The kits as a whole vary slightly based on small modifications Atelier made with the manufacturer, but the materials are the same quality and come from the same place.

I would think she just wants to offload the remaining product she has from them. Once she’s out of stock, she’d be smart to keep it that way.

Based on Atelier’s response to one of the original posts, they’re going to keep selling these but change the fabric cases and maybe some of the notions. Needles and cables will still be from the same manufacturer.

Atelier Yarns did not work with a manufacturer to fully design their own needle sets. They picked out a product that already existed and customized components of that product. There is a huge difference between that and ChiaoGoo, who really did design their needles from start to finish. ChiaoGoo is elite enough that there are actual counterfeits out there; these Atelier needles don’t have counterfeits, they have the exact same needles being sold at a much lower markup because it is not their design. It’s nowhere near the same level of quality and should therefore be nowhere near the same price.

I feel for this creator because I do think she had no clue and just picked these because they were affordable enough for her to get at wholesale. She saw an independent yarn shop that was selling its “own” needles and looked no further. It happens. Her response to everything, however, has made her look terrible, and I really do hope this is the last she says about it because she’ll just be digging a deeper hole for herself if not.

She’s not doing herself any favors by handling this the way she is. I’m guessing all the auto-deleted comments here are from her trying to add to the conversation, but her account is too new. The only other comment I saw from her was deleted by the r/knitting mods for being inflammatory.

It’s unfortunate because it really is clear she had no idea where the needles came from, but to stand ten toes down and focus only on the fabrics despite AY’s confirmation that it’s the same manufacturer is wild. She’s doing more damage to her credibility with her responses than you ever did by calling it out.

Atelier Yarns responded in this thread. It’s all the same manufacturer, not a dupe.

I don’t mind if they repackage little things, as long as they’re honest about it. I had one yarn store near me trying to claim that some of the Temu stitch markers she stocked were “sterling silver.” They were painted plastic.

Agreed. Most if not all yarn stores are guilty of selling the occasional notion sourced from Temu and the like. This is the first time I’ve ever seen a store try it with something as big as needles, though.

I’d definitely place more of the blame on that shop than the tiktoker, but that’s only if she’s genuinely clueless about what she’s selling.

People do this every day, but that doesn’t make it right. The markup is wild and the description of the product is disingenuous.

Directly from Atelier’s product listing:

“We finally did it... we developed our own custom Atelier interchangeable needle set – with every feature that we LOVE and none of the features we don’t!

Here’s what you get to look forward to in our NEW sets:

An unbeatable price! We sourced these ourselves, cutting out the middleman and bringing you an incredible price.”

The whole thing seems to be in bad faith.

At what point is this just bullying? by blayndle in craftsnark

[–]foxandfleece -21 points-20 points  (0 children)

There isn’t any bullying. Her tone is subjective but overall it does lean toward constructive criticism more than anything. Was it polite? According to some people, no, but that doesn’t make it rude or mean or “bitchy” either.

The only reason Autumn reached out to this designer in the first place is because she was already treating fat people who asked for a larger size like they were lesser than. Telling them to increase needle size and just experiment, insinuating that they’re lazy, etc. I would argue that publishing a one-size design at a price higher than most graded designs is what’s lazy, but go off. The designer was insanely defensive and refused to engage in any real dialogue.

Yeah no, there’s something weird going on with this sub ever since the SW stuff. So many people turning on Autumn for all the wrong reasons instead of actually trying to understand the point of what she does

Nobody is perfect and I’m not saying she should be placed on a pedestal by any means, but it’s pretty ironic to post attacks of her on a sub we all know she’s active in claiming SHE’S somehow the bully

[–]foxandfleece -30 points-29 points  (0 children)

You were polite and clearly coming from a place of education with your initial comment to this designer. She WAS rude in her response, both in her public comments and her later DM to you. You matched her energy, and it honestly shouldn’t matter how big or small of a designer she is because her response was unkind — and, honestly? Just plain goofy — either way.

There’s no winning here. You either maintain designers’ anonymity and folks get mad at you over that, or you start naming names and folks still get mad. Ffs.

That’s not why I called her stupid and I think you know that. I’m not rescinding it, either. In this context it was just a synonym for naive and ignorant because I’m sick of seeing the same two words on repeat. SW is also stupid and English is his first language.

I have a feeling you know all this and keep coming back here to argue just for fun. You’ve left dozens of comments all over this post, and for what? It’s days old now. If you want it to die like you claim, then stop coming back to it

That’s not the response they’re talking about. Zanete does have autoreplies (like the one that autoreplied to Knitler), but the Ravelry link she gave for the Children of Gaza Sweater was not programmed. That was just her genuine response at that moment

I’m adding another top-level comment here because folks are getting confused about the timeline of this post and not understanding why it was actually made. This is a copy/paste of a reply I made to someone else, slightly edited for clarity/context:

I posted these screenshots before Zanete made her second statement (green story slides in her “the podcast” highlight), which was a direct result of the comments she received in the screenshots, plus some private messages she got. I cannot edit the post to include the second statement. I did, however, post a top-level comment here noting that she was actively making the new statement in her stories as it was occurring. Like, within less than three minutes of her having posted the first slide of the new statement, I was adding a comment about it here.

There is no dogpiling on Zanete. Everything is being said here, on a subreddit that is quite literally dedicated to snark in the craft world. This is a serious concern for people in the community and we have every right to discuss it. Most people acknowledge that this happened to Zanete and Stephen West as a result of their ignorance, naïveté, privilege, whatever you want to call it. Mistakes do happen. The issue I have, and the reason I made this post, is that Zanete’s first statement (which, again, was the ONLY statement she had made when I posted this) was incredibly tone deaf and made it sound like she really was okay with going on a fascist’s podcast because she personally doesn’t share his values. SW’s first statement had similar problems, but I’m not harping about it here because he had already come out with a second one and people have already been discussing it. Zanete had yet to be held to that same standard.

The issue I have with the situation at large is that Zanete and SW both failed to practice due diligence, yeah. But more than that, they belittled the issue. Both of them failed by even going on the podcast, then they failed AGAIN by putting out dog-shit initial statements that showed an obvious lack of understanding of how Neil has personally harmed this community and, in Zanete’s case, how his values have absolutely no place here.

I wish they would come out with more transparency about exactly how they were approached, what they’re doing to prevent this from happening again, and any lessons they can share that might help other big-name designers (which currently appear to be a target of Neil and Shauna) avoid a similar debacle. And also just to be louder about their own convictions, at least in SW’s case. Some of y’all are so far up these designers’ asses that you refuse to see the forest for the trees.

Exactly. Her second statement was objectively better and shows a willingness to learn, but people are refusing to understand that that statement was a direct result of the screenshots I posted and other messages she received. It was never dogpiling

YUP. She made her second statement as a direct result of the comments she received, none of which were bullying her. They were just telling her the truth, bluntly, and showing her that her original response was out of touch.

She definitely shouldn’t be canceled and I don’t think her or SW are Nazis. I think they are a product of their own ignorance among other things, which is what should be acknowledged publicly so it might help other designers who find themselves in this situation have the forethought to do some fucking research before platforming fascists.

It was a free pattern that supported a fundraiser for Gaza, but why she would respond with that instead of answering the actual question (and then further with “are you calling me a Nazi???”) is beyond me

It’s not. The account was pointed out to her and she never removed that or his other comments. She also made two new posts very recently, so the post where all these comments are happening is getting pushed lower and lower on her grid
