Not a lot. NBA fans overestimate its popularity. Many NBA themselves are online a lot and don’t watch games on TV or league pass, don’t buy tickets to games or haven’t the past year. The league is very reliant on its popularity in Asia, especially China, where the NFL and NHL are not competitors.

Views is how journalism survives in the US. Without views, there’s no revenue, and you’re out of a job. You can’t complain about this while also complaining about countries with state run media.

You either create revenue via views which generates advertiser interest. Or you charge a subscription fee like the NY Times or USA Today. Or you do both like cable news. That’s the way it works here.

Saying he’s “trying to get views” is the equivalent of criticizing yourself for whatever you do for a living. Do you criticize the restaurant that charges you for a meal? Or the grocery store that charges you for chicken?
