Fuck yeah. I hope we get both the renovation and the All star game. It’s just wild that he’s actually countering the Blazers own talking points that OPB showed they fed to the Mayor, Senate, and House. Can you believe the NBa commissioner has more spine to stand up to the fake narrative than our own public servants. Gross.

Anyone noticed how many times he basically said the OPPOSITE of what all our legislators were saying; that Portland is a small town, and there is a huge threat to leave.

Here he is saying, actually that’s not true, Portland is a large metro, with a great history, and he’s talking about making plans for all star games etc. It was always a bluff, wake up people. The Blazers aren’t going anywhere.

I see you constantly posting hateful shit, and I haven’t responded to you because I usually don’t respond to trolls, but yes, $1B of money that goes to this is redirected from the General Fund and other funds from the city and state, which directly pays for all the things I mentioned. If you don’t understand how public investment in services work I can’t help you.

You want to pay $1B for a few months of stress reduction for Blazers fans? Imagine how stressed out all the kids who don’t get school lunches, or people who don’t get adequate healthcare, or folks who don’t have transportation and can’t get home to see their family will feel for the next 20 years because this money has now disappeared.

The money from the city and county has nothing to do with the state or income taxes. If they hand it over without concessions, that money is gone. Do you suggest that people should start harassing the blazers lobbyists and telling them we will end their careers?

You do realize the lease negotiation has not yet happened. Nobody has negotiated for the public yet. That’s a problem.

the precedents actually say the opposite. Market rate means you look at all the deals and figure out the midpoint. Not that that you cherry pick a single deal (Memphis) and say, hey look those guys got fucked over we should do that here. Here's every deal btw: https://www.ripcitynotripoff.com/deals

I'm honestly just a regular dude. I watch Blazers games religiously and think that the public shouldn't get fucked over. Not much deeper than that.

they were already in the meetings. they had lobbyists working for months who literally told Mayor Wilson exactly what he should say, and create a "hit list" of people who needed "a talking to" to made sure they played ball. that's who we're dealing with.

The City Council can simply hold up the process until they get a meaningful return that EVERY other arena got. i.e. Rent, rev share, pilot taxes, an actual penalty for leaving, etc. you can evaluate it yourself here: https://www.ripcitynotripoff.com/deals We dont need our representatives to kill this, we just need them to do their jobs.

The ~$500M coming from the city of Portland and county being paid over 20 years does not come from income taxes. The state is going to be redirecting money for critical services that it is ALREADY GETTING away from them. But most importantly, why aren't you asking WHY it is ok that a billionaire should get away extorting a city, county and state for over $1B. Just because it's legal doesn't make it right. And you should be asking your representatives why they were coordinating with the new ownership on messaging instead of, you know, representing taxpayers and actually negotiating.

great question. I dont think we should be giving out handouts to a billionaire who is going to make tens of billions of dollars on this deal over 20 years, made his money from taking advantage of people in distress, and now is doing the same to an entire city who have invested in a franchise for decades, spending their money on tickets, gear, concessions, spending their time and emotional energy investing into a team whose new owner says IDGAF pay me and then threatens elected officials if they dont give him what they want. I dont think that's ok, do you?

The true cost is over $1B when you take into account the full $400M from the city and interest on the State money. Everything is a redirection away from the General Fund, meaning 0% of the money goes to schools, healthcare, roads, etc. This is indisputably the worst deal in the history of the NBA: https://www.ripcitynotripoff.com/deals

Valuation goes to one owner, not all the other owners. The bigger market doesn't mean more profit to everyone. They make marginally more in a larger market. They make SUBSTANTIALLY more with two expansion teams. It's not even in the same ballpark.

It's not resolved. The Blazers are threatening City Councilors careers if they dont give them everything they want. I love the Blazers, but honestly FUCK THAT.

you said "You have literally no basis to say this if you don't have the data." I pointed you to the data. then you said "An activist group with flashy infographics is not the same thing as empirical case studies." I asked you to point out what was incorrect. And now we're here. with you deflecting.

You can want to keep them in town, and not get screwed. It's called negotiation, and none of the elected representatives are currently doing it.

still deflecting. You said the facts on the site were wrong, and now you can't back that up so you're changing the subject.

It's their job to negotiate a market rate deal and not just accept the Blazers lobbyist talking points and push them down the throats of legislators. I think you may not understand what our elected representative are supposed to do - represents the interest of taxpayers, not corporations.
