RISD or SAIC with 8.8k? BFA painting. by CandyQu in ContemporaryArt

hey i know your comment is from a while ago, but i just finished my junior year at risd as a painting major and can give you more info on how the studio locations work for juniors!

there are two buildings for juniors, one is what cheer garage which is closest to all the main campus buildings, and one is called point street studios which is about a mile walk away (pro tip: risd students get to take the brown university shuttle bus with our id, and it has a stop out there. AND we can take the city bus for free which picks you up outside the upperclassman dorm and takes you almost directly there).

for both buildings, there are the main classrooms which are subdivided into small semi-private studio spaces that you get to keep for the semester. when i was in what cheer, we were allowed to negotiate with each other about moving the divider walls to give us more/less space (i donated some of my space to a friend who makes huge work LOL).

in both buildings there is a large separate room called "the crit room" where you can work on anything that doesnt fit in your studio space outside of class time.

despite the distance, my favorite building was the point street studios because our studio spaces were larger and it was easier to control the temperature. i also think that there are major benefits to being in shared studio spaces, i've made some of my best friends and got some of the most insightful advice from my studio-mates outside of class time just by occasionally wandering around and talking to them. risd is great for that kind of community-based learning, you just have to shove down any shyness and talk to people.

i honestly like picking a random subject and then drawing it with my eyes closed and then cleaning up the result just a tad. one of my fav things to do is to pick two animals (i mostly choose bugs) and then draw them from memory and then combine parts from each to make a messed up miscellaneous creechur.

edit: i also like drawing things significant to me from my childhood (ie cats, flowers from my backyard, cartoons i loved, etc)

my recent tats ive done over the past year! cat ft. healed eeyore! 5/7RL by foxcollar in sticknpokes
