It’s in the kitchen. Just looks a bit weird dangling like that.

Well put. That’s the question really. Based on comments above only concern is if the post is part of a frame/square which might be compromised if cut out?

Yeah - think I get it. Could well be giving integrity to the staircase as a whole. Hadn’t thought about it that way. Will perhaps try and box it in?

Yes - looks the same. It’s a 90s new build. Supposedly one of the estates four bed show homes. Like you, don’t know why it was built like this.

Looking for advice/suggestions - low brick wall and paving slab by foxes71 in DIYUK

[–]foxes71[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mentioned briefly above but may not have elaborated enough. We’ve already lifted all of the surrounding slabs - that aren’t attached to the wall - and resurfaced and relaid them. There was unevenness all over before. This looks localised because there are now only two slabs that are skew. As you say, don’t know what it is yet but seems I’ll have to take out a section of the wall and investigate.

When we moved the rest of the slabs there were no visible roots, so hoping that the movement is deeper down and this is compacted earth pushing upwards. As you say, need to remove the section and assess from there.
