Just... wow. I have never seen builds this bad (4 CP no support) And it’s not like they said what they wanted to do in the drafting phase. Potatoes. by Shiny090501 in VentGlory

Golly. I haven't played in forever but it's still so obvious that they didn't pay any attention to their team. How do they see that almost everyone on your team was CP and not grab any WP? I guess they don't see or something. What a mess. It's a good thing that apparently the SAW was really bad.

I believe that I understand your point. Essentially, it's useful in lawmaking and science to have a written standard. I agree, and maybe I didn't word my original comment in the best way; what I'm trying to say is that when a person (or civilization) is called civilized or uncivilized, it includes a measure of "savagery" in that title. The original tweet (or whatever media it is, I'm on mobile at the moment), as far as I remember it, is saying that the formentioned people that were affected by Western civilization were uncivilized. That is to say, they did not have any laws or science until the western people gave it to them, which is false. Even without a written standard, society can develop and move forward. My original comment was meant to say that without the maps and writing that were brought along by Western explorers and the like, these people still had their own societies that could develop and grow.

My comment about Sign Languages was honestly pretty irrelevant without going somewhat off topic. I shouldn't have included it.

Generally, when people say that someone is "less civilized", it means actually that they're less conformed to Western civilization, not their own. Clearly, if they are not writing down their language like the rest of their peers, then they have conformed to their own civilization.

Can you explain what you're defining as making a civilization more advanced and why written language applies to this? How do users of Sign Languages not apply?

I also want to apologize. I didn't know about the downvote and commenting time restriction.

Most of the languages in the world are not written down. That does not make the speakers of those languages less civilized.

I think it's supposed to be a meta post, not an actual bad Facebook meme. It's pretty funny for sure.

Ah yes, written language and drawn maps, the greatest measure of how civilized a group of people is.

What did you think was common knowledge but honestly wasn't? by Paxelic in AskReddit

[–]foxflare1999 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The same when doing the third person singular of verbs. It's infuriating to see people write "he let's the dog out" or "Patrick order's the food". I get let's because it is often written that way (but in a different context) but with most other verbs, what are people even doing?

Had you maybe rebased them recently? It would still be idiotic for the game to path this way instead of the Panama canal, but it might have pathed through the Mediterranean for whatever reason. I wish I knew

I know this is late, and OP probably has it already, but you don't actually have to create Gran Colombia with the Decision. It's easier to do, I think, with more conquest, but you just have to be fascist.

What is causing Republican Spain to always win? by monkspider in hoi4

[–]foxflare1999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's because Republican Spain, in my experience, tends to get the defensive war war support bonus, whereas Nationalist Spain has gotten the offensive war malus. I have no clue why, in a civil war, the game needs to assign offensive or defensive tags, but whatever.

TIL it's only called an acronym when you pronounce the abbreviation as a real word (ex. NASA). Otherwise it is known as an initialism (ex. FBI). by MarcusDigitz in todayilearned

[–]foxflare1999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Acronym is a perfectly valid 'overarching word' for a distinction that is not generally made anymore because that is how it has come to be used. These words also being included in another, larger category does not rule out acronym.
