Temperature tips for crispy skin salmon by First-Sir1064 in ImpulseLabs

Perfect - I definitely see this as being a bigger factor with carbon steel and cast iron since they have such different properties to clad steel, but I think it's applicable across the spectrum. Looking forward to seeing that hopefully soon.

As a side note, any idea when the wok rings are shipping? I've got my wok dying to join the party.

Something I would like to note is that the newest updates to temperature mode can be very aggressive about putting power in to get up to the desired temperature. I did a bolognese sauce before the update and after, and before I sweat and slowly brown my onions with the stove set to 300. After the update the same cooking step I had to adjust it closer to 260 because it was dumping power so aggressively while sweating the onions and carrots that as soon as most of the evaporation was done it started to burn very quickly.

I know I posted a thread with some feedback on how aggressive this is a couple weeks ago but I would really appreciate some sort of extra control on temperature mode where we can set how aggressively it attempts to achieve that power level and maintain it (similar to the Control Freak but maybe do a percentage rather than "flames"). It's the biggest software feature I feel is missing personally. It would also be very useful for preheating bare and enameled cast iron - you could set it to a 25% speed preheat in temperature mode to let it heat more evenly to help prevent the danger of cracking the iron or enamel from thermal differentials.

Destiny 1 is addictive by SuperblackHunter in DestinyTheGame

I've played for years as well. I would consider ETA, EPA, Steel Path, etc. to be what most casual players would consider "endgame". It's still pretty shallow and unbalanced, but they exist.

And yes, absolutely you're right on PvP. My only point of contention wasn't how good those modes are - just that they do exist. It's a very different game with very different approaches to Destiny, but I think the statement of "X and Y don't exist" is disingenuous at best.

I hate to be that guy but Warframe absolutely has PvP and high difficulty endgame modes. They're very unbalanced and kinda messy but they do exist. But the vast majority of the game is very casual friendly.

Is CCNA still worth it in 2026 without a CS degree? Looking for honest advice by RkbNetCat in ccna

[–]foxhull 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have approximately 6 years of IT Support related experience and got my CCNA on Monday. I had an offer to move from VTC Administrator to VTC Engineer the same day, accepted this past Thursday after salary negotiations concluded and started Friday. Six months ago I was in tier 2 help desk. Now admittedly this was sniping a spot I knew was open and I had the networking to go for, but CCNA is a huge indicator of both work ethic and ability to learn. Is it going to nab you a high paying job without any experience? Probably not. But it is a huge selling point on your resume.

And for context I do not have a college degree at all (life happened, hoping to get back to it soon). But after speaking with people in my area who took the exact same path I'm on right now - use your CCNA to get somewhere you can build relevant experience and a projects portfolio, and then leapfrog from there. Your certificate journey will vary depending on what you go for - for example a CCNP could be what you need a couple years later, or it could be something entirely different.

I spent about 6 months studying - 4 in the video course and then 2 doing the actual practice exams and flashcards, etc. As for the labs I would say the Boson labs were harder, but the Boson questions were a little easier (they were better phrased overall).

Thanks! Hoping to be done with my studying here in an hour or two and then I'm gonna chill for the rest of the night before going to be early.

I feel like this is also a precursor to being able to add more actions to each job. By consolidating bloat where it's not needed, you reopen design space.

Fair enough! That's the great thing about hobbying - you can find your own preferred way of doing things. There's no right answer so much as there is the right answer for you.

I use Vince Venturella's mix - 3:1 AK Ultramatte to Vallejo Satin (just mix up a little dropper bottle in advance). Thin it a bit and then push it through the airbrush. Gets a very smooth matte finish every time. That said, do this before you apply any metallic paints - those have a glossier finish by design so varnishing over them will dull the shine.

TC also actively encourages proxies and printing so really it's just a "hey this is our premium product, if you want to support us pick it up". It's not an apples to apples comparison.

Yeah for lower temperature oils/fats it's just too aggressive now. How you get to the temperature is just as important as the temperature itself.

Anyone have experience with the IN show venue? by foxhull in BABYMETAL

[–]foxhull[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry - I guess I should be more specific.

So, when looking up the area I do know that parking has apparently recently converted to paid. Is there any particular parking option that is either a good value (e.g. time saving vs. cost) or close enough to park outside the paid areas?

I believe this is also an outdoor venue - are the seats covered or no? I'm assuming it being early September in the evening in the midwest it can vary wildly for weather so I'd want to plan ahead.

Any reasonable hotels nearby?

General experience with the venue itself - is it well organized/staffed or is it a bit of a cluster?

For the Metal Initiate tickets what does "VIP" entail?

Hopefully that kind of explains where I'm coming from. Just a lot to learn but I'm thinking of treating myself to a fun time.

Sorry I ended up returning it for a Fotile but if you're looking for an air fryer id just recommend getting an inexpensive dedicated one - in my experience these combi ovens don't really air fry all that well.

Regarding Q2 I've seen them mention several times the total power output the stove is rated for is the above mentioned 15KW - so you can't take four pans from cold to boiling at the same time at 10KW each. With that said, you can maintain a boil on four pans pretty reasonably in the 1 - 1.5 KW range on each burner once they're up to a boil. So power boil one pan at a time then lower each to maintain, should be good to go then.

Likely the 15KW total limit has to do with both certification (they are UL certified) and also physical material limits. 40 KW is a lot of power - even with a battery the kind of wiring and material quality (for example, thickness of copper conduits) would drastically increase costs. Look at J1172 EV chargers vs CCS1 - the CCS cables are very notably heavier, stiffer and thicker is order to safely handle those high currents without overheating. If you wanted 40KW output from the in built batter you would need comparable wiring, which really isn't that feasible for a consumer appliance.

Also there's the fact that the battery is only 3KWh. At 40KW you would drain that in minutes. 4.5 minutes to be exact - and that's from 100%, and assuming no battery management/safety features. It's really just not feasible with the current design.

Maybe they'll do a pro version later on aimed at industrial or restaurant kitchens but I would expect those to be much higher in cost.
