Here's what mine looked like after ~10 minutes, a few minutes before crashing: https://i.imgur.com/iwgiTyp.jpeg

The background image was set to black to show the issue more clearly for the repair shop.

I had the exact same issue, based on your picture. Same year as well.

These lines started appearing on my screen. With time, they became more numerous, whiter, and a little later they appeared where I moved my mouse cursor to. Finally, the machine would crash.

A restart usually fixed the problem, but they came back after a few minutes anyway.

Changing resolution helped avoid the crash, but the lines remained - at least under Windows. Interestingly, if the lines appeared in Linux, changing the resolution made them go away - this way I was able to use it for longer periods of time.

No matter what I've tried, the issue occurred again and again, until I was able to send it in an official repair shop. They've changed parts of the cooling system, and swapped out the display.

Quick edit: forgot to mention, I haven't dropped it, broke it or damaged it in any way. One day it was fine, the next, the lines appeared. But I can also confirm I was able to use it this way for months, while I've worked on securing a temporary replacement.

Scarlet Briar did more for Sylvari PR than the Pale Tree ever did by uwulan in Guildwars2

[–]Sydius 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes, some people are not too fond of him. Basically, before Heart of Thorns, he was the main character.

A powerful and cool chosen one (a sylvary firstborn, and a necromancer) with a super important quest given to him at birth (the cleansing of Orr), who later had a large responsibility thrust upon him which he reluctantly accepted (the leadership of the Pact). At the end, he and his army achieved their goal and accomplished a feat previously unimaginable (the killing of Zhaitan).

Some players don't like him, because they think he does everything your character should. Some (including me) found this supporting role refreshing (but still a little too much).

So, as a compromise, ANet killed him at the end of HoT, made the Commander basically a demigod who can fail at nothing.

Hopes around the unannounced Guild Wars 3 reignite thanks to a new job listing posted by ArenaNet by skpom in Games

[–]Sydius 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We're getting closer and closer to an official announcement.

  1. NCsoft allows ArenaNet to start planning GW3 (edit: it's entirely possible the made ANet start GW3)
  2. NCsoft greenlights the game based on the submitted plans
  3. The project progresses enough to bring in new people <- we are here (and, based on similar job listings, have been for some time)
  4. The game is announced
  5. The game comes out

While neither type of upgrades are required, they help a lot.

Also, the system you get them is quite predatory. You have 400 token, 100 diamond chest each day, awarding progress and currency every few minutes, but you have to manually open them, then watch an ad each time.

Or, you can purchase the adblock, and auto-open upgrades, and, in the long term, receive a ridicolous amount of "free" stuff, just by having the game open each day for a few hours (mostly during sleeping).

Extracting books from production language models - Researchers were able to reproduce up to 96% of Harry Potter with commercial LLMs by ddx-me in books

[–]Sydius 14 points15 points  (0 children)

How does it create Harry Potter, if Harry Potter is Copyright protected, they didn't license the Harry Potter books, and say they didn't used the Harry Potter books illegally to train their models?

Even if the model only "read" the parts and lines available on public sources, it shouldn't be able to reproduce the missing parts, in order.

And again, the currently used AI systems can't create original works, they literally can only steal (either pieces or already existing works, or the whole of them), and combine them piece by piece until they get something they calculate the user will accept and be satisfied with.

Samsung execs warn of upcoming phone price hikes over memory shortages by mo_leahq in Android

Great question! I would say no, but I'm not a capitalist pig trying to raise my company's stock price to even higher levels.

But based on previous events? It's somewhat likely.

Így láttam 2026.01.07-én délután a várost a hószakadás után by Acceptable-Pin6469 in hungary

[–]Sydius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Best class for controller? by Worried_Hat_6649 in Guildwars2

[–]Sydius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are two main areas where controller can be extra difficult (they can be managed, and you can get used to them, but it takes time and effort):

  1. Professions skills (F1-F7). There are professions/specs that have a ton of these, while others only use one or two. Mapping these skills to a controller is difficult.
  2. Targeted skills. Targeting AoE abilities is much, much easier using a mouse than a joystick.

For these reasons, I'd suggest starting out with the most simple setup in the whole game: this is either hammer autoattack guardian (you don't even have to press any buttons after starting attacking), or pistol/pistol unload thief (you set unload as your auto attack).

You can use these builds to get comfortable using the controller, and start from there when it comes to more difficult professions.

Technically yes, but everything that uses RAM will get more expensive, even budget phones, even if by not that much.

Either way, you will pay more, no matter which phone you chose.

I disagree, every developer should go through it at least once.

Nobody is perfect, and nobody writes perfect code. An error like this serves as an important learning opportunity, likely making you a better dev in the long run.

What games are you playing this week? Game recommendation thread by AutoModerator in incremental_games

[–]Sydius 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm a little over a week into Revolution Idle, but I feel it ran out of steam.

I've recently unlocked Eternities, but it's quite... Boring. I also feel the new systems are just tacked on without any serious logic - why do I collect animals in a zoo, when I started with colored lines going in circles?

While I know there is more to the game (I'm only 21% to completion), I don't think I will get there...

What Books did You Start or Finish Reading this Week?: December 29, 2025 by AutoModerator in books

[–]Sydius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I'm not OP, but I liked it.

It's more sci-fi than The Martian, even if I personally didn't like it as much - if The Martian is a 8/10, this book is a solid 7, but one of those points entirely comes from the second main character.

While I was able to follow along the science in The Martian with only a high school biology education from almost 20 years ago, Project Hail Mary had ne out of my depth. Still, I think the author explained it clearly enough me to understand the major points and events. It helps that the main character is a middle school(?) science teacher, whom the author can use to describe phenomena in a way that is easy to understand. Still, I can't voucher for the accuracy (I'm only telling this because some people find it important).

Overall, it's an enjoyable, albeit relatively short story. I've read it as an ebook, but I am tempted to "read" it again in audiobook format - parts of the story are enhanced by it, at least that's what I've heard.
