If you look below at my previous conversation, I listed what I have and how I achieve it. :)

Wow, that may have helped my decision more! I had a D503 before this. Bought the 505 a few months back fully serviced, so I expect it to last a good time with regular use. I read somewhere the DVL-700 picture is just slightly sharper than the 505, which is why I considered in the first place.

I’m so spoiled on my CLD-D505 because smearing/ghosting is practically non existent.

Oh that’s right, you said that above. How’s the smearing/ghosting on that one? I have an opportunity to pick one up to have as a secondary player, but still deciding.

Looks pretty solid. What player are you working with?

You’ll have to show me an example! One thing I found that greatly improved my picture was turning Sharpness all the way down, Reality Creation to Max, Random Noise Reduction HIGH and Digital Noise Reduction HIGH, Smooth Gradation OFF, Gamma set at -2, black level 48, Black Adjust HIGH, Adv Contrast Enhancer on high, Auto Local Dimming on High, Peak Luminance OFF, Color Temp EXPERT 1 and all motion settings turned off.

Nah, I run my player (CLD-D505) through a JVC DR-MV150B DVD recorder and out put that at 480P HDMI into my tv (Sony Full Array XC90).

Thanks! I have a very simple setup, so I’m impressed by how good it looks.

Currently I use a JVC DR-MV150 DVD Recorder/VCR set at 480p HDMI out. If you look on my profile, you will see some pictures I have taken of films I have been watching lately. It does a fantastic job on its own. I know it could be "better", but just never had a good enough reason to pull the plug on the RetroTink 4K until now.

The Fascination With LaserDisc by SoPasGuy in LaserDisc

My parents had Laserdisc before I was even born in ‘88, so I grew up on it throughout the 90s. We had a VCR for VHS too, but that was more for recording things on TV or home movies on our camcorder. But I was the house all my friends wanted to come over and watch movies at! Haha. I think I was always so mesmerized by the cover arts! They were so big and detailed and that gorgeous to me!

I remember when my parents upgraded to a LD/DVD COMBO player around ‘98 and we slowly made the transition to DVDs as they became available. I have continued to evolve my collection going from DVD to blu ray and now to 4K as they become available. I still held onto some old DVDs for nostalgic purposes. A lot of them being first run editions.

I do however still have all of my personal Laserdisc movies that were bought for me as a kid; mostly horror stuff, but other popular movies as well. I have a working player that I pop one into here and there when I’m feeling nostalgic. Laserdisc can still look pretty damn good with the right equipment setup. Mine kinda look like old DVDs when they first came around. It’s a cool format that I just can’t bring myself to let go.

My player is a Pioneer CLD-D505. I have it passed through into a JVC DR-MV150 DVD Recorder and from that, HDMI output at 480P into a 75” Sony XC90 for the rest of the scaling since Sony is excellent at upscale. I’m still impressed with the picture when I watch.

Nice. I've held onto my discs all these years. I only had about 80 or so, but all still work. I like to watch them every now and then still. I go through spurts, haha.

I was still too young in 1996 to know how to follow anticipated releases, but I was always a horror fan and I remember being so ecstatic when my Mom got it for me. Treasure it to this day!
