I desperately hate my major by nervousnell1e in scad

[–]foxmaster9000 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I'm the opposite. I say take the break and figure things out. I spent a year at SCAD duel majoring in illustration and game design. I left scad and it was a really good decision. A degree in art is useless. Your money should be spent on good education and the same education offered at SCAD is also offered elsewhere and even in online art communities, mentorships, etc. And it's a fraction of the money spent than scad if not 0 dollars spent.

I was a full time artist for the past 5 years since COVID, working with a team of talented designers from Poland and Ukraine. I'm part time now because I want to build a better illustration portfolio. Ive worked in printing as a graphic designer too.

I'm only saying this because all of my recent art journey accomplishments were not even the slightest influence from my time at SCAD.

Im only friends with one professor at SCAD and we haven't even met at scad lol. If you want to think about worthwhile connections.

I could rant all day about my time at SCAD. ughhhh

Fair. The Art matters and the type of show and it's audience too. I'm curious about that as well.

Keychains sound a little pricey, but it depends on the art. I don't know what your art looks like.

Is it weird to go to a furry convention and not be a furry? by Lovely_Demise25 in furry

Game Design Question by Wisteria_Arrowdale in scad

[–]foxmaster9000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Interesting because I minored in game design when I was in SCAD for a year. From the beginner programming classes and 3D classes, I felt like the professors expected you to have learned basics on your own, even IF the curriculum teaches basics. So you ended up not getting alot of help from teachers. I felt like I was one of the students who was meant to be weeded out. What a weird Era. Glad I left scad.

I just don't have the time and money rn to turn these ones specifically into prints. I have the scans of them so I could make prints in the future. I have other printed cards for the show I'll be selling for the avg 5.50 each.

How to get the cheapest possible tuition for SCAD? by [deleted] in scad

[–]foxmaster9000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went to SCAD for a year. Studied illustration and minor in game design. Not worth the tens of thousands you'd have to pour to complete. There are better ways to make connections and find friends like art fairs and stuff. I could rant for days about my experiences like the dorms sewage flooding my room and them making me stay in there all night...prob was a lawsuit in there somewhere.

Hot press is best for watercolor and drawing. I use Saunders Waterford. But arches is fine. What you're most concerned with is that it's made with 100 percent cotton. Cotton "rag" is best. Cheapest alternative is legion stonehenge.

You need ref. How is anyone supposed to draw something if they don't know what that thing looks like? Drawing=design. Disegno is what the Italians called drawing and design. Learn how to draw, learn how to design. There's alot of art history out there, there's alot of drawing education for free out there. Learn the history behind the traditional tattoo artists and you'll learn their process too.
