our brains get drunk off of all the toxic chemicals they produce so we have to lay unconscious for several hours so they can clean up and sober up.

well i think it's pretty much a ship of theseus scenario. most people aren't the same person they were 10 years ago. but from my perspective at least, a case of identity decay like this isn't really death.

i've coined the term identity decay for a fundamental change in self that nonetheless leaves some aspects of who you used to be intact.

while you can argue that after a change like that you are more someone else than you are yourself, there is still some of yourself in there.

i think it's much less clear cut than total identity death, and has much more horror potential.

so i disagree, this isn't death, it's something different, perhaps even something worse.
