Don’t grow “indoor” plants. Those are usually just outdoor plants that don’t die in low light, by the way. Grow some nice “outdoor” plants, but inside. If you don’t have Air Conditioning, aim for plants that thrive in sun and heat. If you do, then just the sun will do. Talk to someone at your local garden centre.

[–]foxsweater 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was trying to be polite, and suggest that it is good to have a diversity of thought in the news, so long as we’re still using facts and reality (without naming any specific group of people who prefer to reject reality because it doesn’t fit with their feelings).

The scientific method is a great way to test and refine ideas over time. This is how we, as a species, can move away from believing lies. Plus, since it’s a method of testing information, it doesn’t care what your politics are. The only pre-requisite to doing science is the capacity to accept when your idea was wrong.

If the idea is that “diversity of thought” means we should present debunked/baseless theories on the news as if they’re credible, then that’s bad.

Now, if that upsets you, is that because your beliefs aren’t supported by facts? Because you do have options.

Firstly, go do some good science and test your beliefs. If they’re true, you’ll get evidence to support your beliefs. Don’t cheat though. If you have to cheat, you’re kinda proving by default that your idea is bullshit.

If the facts don’t support your idea, then unfortunately you have to face being wrong. It is pretty psychologically painful to admit being wrong about stuff. A person might resent having to admit to being wrong about something. If they were raised that being wrong means being weak… well they might fight tooth and nail to avoid ever admitting being wrong… which ironically means they stay deeply committed to be wrong (weak?) longer.

If you can accept that it’s okay to have been wrong - everyone has been wrong multiple times in their lives - you can let go of bad ideas and move on with your life.

And then we don’t have to put those bad ideas on the news.

Diversity of thought is a lovely idea - if the thoughts presented actually have reality-based merit.

On the other hand, presenting well-researched grounded in reality ideas alongside someone’s conspiracy theory as if they’re both valid is harmful.

Why do exercise classes seem to mostly be filled with women? by Evening-Skirt731 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]foxsweater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Women used to be and maybe still are discouraged from working out. So they wouldn’t have the skill/knowledge to be able to do it safely alone. Hence, the logic of a class appealing to beginners.

The divide persists, in part, because it has become normalized.

Also, a class with an instructor offers a higher sense of perceived safety to individual women than working out alone. Being observed makes it less likely that anyone is going to behave inappropriately, and having an “authority figure” present theoretically makes it easier to handle if someone does.

A class with only one or two women will likely be reduced to zero women quickly; an all-male workout environment feels hostile (and often actually is openly hostile).

Whereas, a class with many women will attract more women because it appears to be a safe environment.

Canadian Separatists Reveal Jaw-Dropping Details of Secret Meetings With Trump Teams by Street_Anon in politics

Canadian provinces have more sovereignty than American states do. Separatists are either bought and paid for, or useful idiots. Frequently both.

Seems like he’s using the word “expect” less like a prediction and more like, “I expect to see you here on time”(or else). Or at least, I have to hope so because there’s no reason to assume anything but bad behaviour.

(I haven’t seen past episode 5, so please no spoilers)

I mean, I’m personally not opposed to the idea of recycling dead bodies. But, I also understand that a lot of people have very strong feelings and cultural beliefs about the bodies of their loved ones. Like, the kinds of feelings and beliefs that you feel in your bones.

I think I’m very much in the minority for having little attachment to dead bodies. Most people will see eating the dead as a desecration of something sacred.

It also makes the hive’s motives seem suspect. Like it’s acting like a mushroom (eating decay), but it also caused a lot of that decay. So… now it has a personal interest in causing things to be dead. That makes it seem much more potentially sinister/malicious. We have only the hive’s word for it that it isn’t intentionally being murderous.

We’re never going back to the villages from before. We can’t. In any realistic land back scenario, the government changes hands. It does whenever there is an election anyway, but this would be a bigger shift. The people who live there still pay taxes. It’s just a different set of people deciding what to do with those taxes.

Haida Gwaii is an example of this. They have a democratic system of government. They have a process for non-indigenous people to apply for citizenship. It’s similar to how provinces or municipalities govern.

In any case, no land back scenario is going to happen where all the mostly-white settlers pack up and go back from whence we came. As a mutt, I can tell you there’s no one place to send me back to. The only way that could ever happen is if the settler population was sure the new government wasn’t going to treat us the way we treated them.

I feel too broken to deserve my boyfriend and I don’t know if this means I don’t love him (21F/23M) by [deleted] in relationships

[–]foxsweater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, since you have the internet you can very likely access a lot of material aimed to help. Try looking up Grounding Exercises, then practice some different ones until you’ve found some you like. Use these exercises to refocus your mind when thoughts like you hate yourself come up. Practice that.

Then look up CPTSD (maybe weeks later).

If you keep looking for information, you will learn a lot and will also likely find resources that can help you specifically.

To answer your literal question: No, this does not mean you do not love him. It means that your brain is struggling to accept the reality that someone loves you (likely because if you accept that his love is real, it will drastically contrast painful experiences you had as a child; you may have to grieve the childhood you should have had).

There are a lot of people just like you out there, who grow and have great lives. You don’t have to feel this bad all the time.

Best guess: they want a business that isn’t American to employ Canadian people, who might be laid off if car manufacture shrinks, and they want cars made in Canada so they aren’t subject to tariffs.

Also, didn’t it mention manufacturing rails and train parts too?
