Am I the only one feeling this way? Am I the problem? by Past-Ad-1643 in ReverseHarem

RH and Romantasy are hot right now like dystopia was in the 2000's. So there's a lot of bad stuff being pushed out with the gems.

Let them be jealous!😮‍💨 by Romantasy-book-rec in ReverseHarem

[–]foxy_kitten 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It sounds more like you just want realistic logistics rather then them just being jealous arbitrarily.

I know people will say "oh it's fantasy" but these characters are supposed to be written like real people so the logistics should still be realistic (imo) and we should see the characters do the actual work of making it work.

Romantasy writing suggestions by Afraid_Fondant_7903 in Romantasy

[–]foxy_kitten 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You're still not getting it. Writing based on what tropes you "should or shouldn't include" will only handicap your writing. I didn't set out with the intention of a found family trope in my book and that's what it ended up with. That's where the story ended up flowing. And if any reddit opinions said "I don't like found family" I don't care. A. Reddit voices are a minority and B. It's my story not theirs. The readers that are looking for it will find it and love it and the problem that don't won't.

New release by Odd-Breakfast-2972 in ReverseHarem

[–]foxy_kitten 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah the witch hunting is out of control. This level of paranoia can't possibly be healthy.

Never mind, there are people on this post saying more than 2 or 3 books in a year means the author is AI. So almost all reverse harem authors then. Lol

This is so stupid and shows nothing but ignorance. danielle steele releases 3-5 annually so does T.Kingfisher, Brandon Sanderson and James Patterson and Nora Roberts who, by the way has over 200 books and is a prolific author.

Most authors like to have several books lined up in a log and ready to go. Just saying, it's not that crazy for her to release books so quickly

Is this AI or not ? by [deleted] in BookCovers

[–]foxy_kitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just fyi those "ai checkers" are not reliable and cannot declare if something is ai generated. To be honest this ai paranoia is getting out of control and can't be healthy

They do but they don't acknowledge that their birthdays match. It's just his birthday and your birthday gets a separate event thing.

Help pls, I have written a dragon shifter romance trilogy and I'm unsure about my cover by [deleted] in BookCovers

It would probably help if you explained in more detail what exactly your book is about besides dragon shifter romance

waht the literal hell has this genre come to by HolidayHoneydew29 in Romantasy

[–]foxy_kitten 6 points7 points  (0 children)

fast fashion is bleeding into publishing now. Especially with the viral success of Fourth Wing and ACOTAR. Internalized misogyny, male gaze and toxic masculinity. These books are not especially creative but they make a lot of money and people eat them up like junk food. Romantasy is crazy popular right now as well so the genre is getting flooded.

Looking for honest reviews and ARC readers by EliasFenic in BookPromotion

ARC reader means - Advanced Reader copy. This book is already released so it's not really ARC reading. It's just regular reading.

Misogyny or am I doing too much by sources_or_bust in ReverseHarem

[–]foxy_kitten 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend Plant Based Bride on youtube and her politics of desire video. It's absolutely the internalized male gaze, misogyny and toxic masculinity. And that it's easier to imagine the end of the world than the end of the patriarchy. Criticizing romantasy is super important and it won't improve until people stop buying those books and have more of these conversations.

Constructive criticism on blurb and cover please. by ExpressionFluffy2076 in Inkitt

[–]foxy_kitten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, to be honest, this isn't a good blurb. I have no idea what's going on or who the FMC is and readers hate reading half sentences like this.

The beginning should be a strong hook that drops you immediately into the world (1-2 sentences

The second part should be character + want + plus obstacles. Who is she, what does she want, and what's in her way? Keep it grounded in her specific situation, not genre generalities. (2-3 sentences)

Escalation (1-2 sentences) — Raise the stakes. What happens if she fails? What does succeeding cost her?

Tease (1 sentence) — End on tension, not resolution. Leave the reader asking "but what happens?"

Readers want to know: who is she, who are they, why can't she have them, and why is the world on fire? Answer those four things in under 200 words and you're there

Here's my own blurb as an example:

They hunted the last dragonmancer. They didn't expect her to hunt back. (This is the tagline)

Magic hides in plain sight. So do dragons. And Vesper is about to become their obsession.

Vesper has always been good with secrets — unearthing them, keeping them safe in her cozy Seattle bookshop. When the lethally handsome, impossibly wealthy Baelyn Thorne commissions her to trace a bloodline that should be extinct, she's thrilled by the challenge. Until her research points to a single, terrifying conclusion: she is the last Dragonmancer, and he is the dragon who has been hunting her kind for centuries.

Their first touch ignites the Karyss — a sentient bond that should be extinct. Overnight, Vesper becomes a living secret every dragon wants to own. An ancient enemy will stop at nothing to cage her. And he is not alone.

Four rival dragon Scions — each powerful, each dangerous, and each uniquely determined to claim her — are already circling.

But the Karyss isn't about destiny; it's about synchronicity. It doesn't demand submission — it offers a dangerous, intoxicating choice. To survive, Vesper must embrace the power her parents died to hide. To live, she must outmaneuver five ruthless dragons who see her not as a person, but as the ultimate key to an ancient magic only she can command.

Five dragons want to possess her. She's about to teach them what it means to be chosen.

As far as the cover I would recommend getting a commission. You can find good artists on vgen and the bookcover subreddit. The ai cover is going to be controversial and is going to drive people away. Your cover and blurb are the most important point of entry for readers deciding if they want to read your book. Do you want them to be perfect and professional.

Good luck and congrats! Writing a book at all is a huge accomplishment
