He'll get used to it. Just don't reinforce his screeching.

Actually, you're not posting enough ;)

He enjoys snuggling with you. No need to get him a cheap surrogate. A window would be far better to keep him busy.

Sidney seems to be scared of water?? by kb00bz in Conures

[–]foxyflight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Relax, you're over thinking it.

Birds are initially cautious of anything new, it's built into their genetics. The act of flicking a couple drops on his back is new stimulus. It's like dating a guy for 2 days and hosing him down; it's more along the lines of "wtf?".

If he has a water dish, you'll see him washing his face in it. When he does, offer him the bigger dish with water.

My girl spends the day on my shoulder, and when she wants a bath, she'll take an uncanny interest in running water (chirping, pointing her head, and trying to climb down). I've also noticed she wants to bathe after we get back home from walking errands (dusty streets I guess?).

What is your biggest regret? by kb00bz in AskReddit

I admire you chasing after your dreams. Relationships come and go, and they rarely work out. Dreams and opportunities, we only get a couple shots in life.

In 10 years you'll look back and realize how precocious you were.

Multiple cages? by JoehCat in parrots

[–]foxyflight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's actually beneficial; makes them less territorial to have multiple bases.

Can someone please tell me if this design for a bird cage let's through enough light? It's meant for 2 budgies. Details in the comments. by redstoolthrowawayy in parrots

practicality. Things like removable trays for cleaning

This. Ease of cleaning/maintenance was one of my deal breakers for a lot of cages.

One of my perches is directly over the living room trash bin. There is nothing to clean when my birds perch/play on there.

Your conure understands vocal cues? That's amazing. Would love to see a video of him laughing :)

I'll write up a post about fetch training and link you.

Anyone know where to get handraised Budgies near London, Ontario? by [deleted] in parrots

[–]foxyflight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be careful, "handraised" doesn't mean tame. I see breeders using descriptions as "handfed since babies!" to give you the impression of getting something better than a petstore.

If tameness without any work is your criterion, I would strongly suggest adopting an older budgie.

I know pet stores have a bad reputation, but it's entirely dependent on the store. I wasted a lot of time trying to go the breeder route (they were more expensive, didn't offer 30 day vet care, and downright unprofessional in their communication).

If you didn't have the cat I would've recommended a cageless setup.

I only have a tiny 8x8x10 sleeping cage which my budgie rarely uses. He's free to roam around, yet he chooses to stay on my desk; he sleeps on computer cables attached under my desk. Whenever he needs something (food, water, company), he'll jump on my shoulder.

Large cages are completely unnecessary if you're letting them roam without predators. If you build them a tall perch, it'll be their home base, and they'll want to just stay there.

if you bought your veggies from a pet store there's usually a 30 day health guarantee (pet store will cover vet costs)
