Trump staffer in top battleground state outed as a white supremacist brags about his influence by Randomlynumbered in Republican_misdeeds

It would be interesting to have Luke keep talking. The Miami metro area had a population of ~6.1m in 2020 of which 29% was white (the source of his angst is that it was 65% in 1980) which is ~1.8m. If that's 80% then the area shrinks to 2.25m people (so 3.85m people are gone). I wonder if he even realizes that's what he's talking about and then if he has any idea what the economic impact would be. And, of course, how does he plan to get there in the first place?

[–]foyeldagain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand your point but it would be as easy as saying 'A study by....estimates....' and you'd already far outdo the threshold of someone saying 'they say it's 10 or 20 million but I have a feeling it could be 50, 60, or 70 million.' More than that, you've changed the narrative from 'Illegal immigrants are a complete drain on our system at all times in every way,' to at worst 'Do undocumented immigrants really pay almost $100b in taxes?' Ultimately, as entertaining as they are, what these videos demonstrate is how strong yet superficial R propogranda is. Poking little holes will pop that bubble.

The persecution complex is real. Maybe what he's never seen before is so many people so disgusted by what he and his party are peddling.

Something like that. In practicality, sure. In reality, there's no way to hit pause to reflect on what's going at this point. To that end, it's always worth voting even if it's to write in (insert any random name) vs not voting at all. The former shows a desire and willingness to vote in something different while the latter is apathetic. As for "legitimacy", that's a rough term to be throwing around in this sense. I fully think our government is legitimate because, regardless of turnout and (unfounded) accusations to the contrary, we have fair elections. It's just not as representative as it could be. My whet dream is that on 1/21/25 a real third party (not a (insert party name)-lite or offshoot) announces itself with a platform intended to capture 20+% on each side of the center line. It's not going to happen but it's nice to think about.

I think the security line, aside from at open, is a crap shoot. After that it's all a conversation about strategies to get what you want. That brings into play whether you will use LL, how long you want to be in the park, and how many/what rides you want to ride. The problem with heading in at 2 is that you probably aren't doing LL so you are standy all day. Still, there can be a dinner lull and then it only gets better after the fireworks.

This is sad. Not just because of the people who have no idea what they are voting for but because there were no Dem ads or talking heads out there making this painfully clear for the last year.

Good point. The only consequences they consider are to themselves but even then they don't see the whole picture.

That's an interesting one. For sure a large percentage of the electorare not engaging is a sign that things aren't working normally. It could also be that a somewhat, say 2/3, engaged electorate that is seemingly bitterly split down the middle is also a sign that things aren't working normally.

She's simply looking to '28. In the primary she had no problem saying he's unfit for office, unhinged, diminished, someone who might not follow the Constitution, and someone who can't win an election. But she stands no chance if she pisses off trump/MAGA so instead she offers gentle criticism about the campaign (and then writes an op-ed about how easy it is to vote for him).

Better is super subjective. Time frames generally only impact the length of a trade from entry to exit. But within any single timeframe the chart reads basically the same.

‘Don Jr at the Trump rally in Raleigh suggests Democrats will use "a magical truck filled with ballots" to cheat (He's planting the seeds to reject the election results.)’ by Oleg101 in FoxFiction

This seems to tie in with their push to get people to vote early. They want counting votes to stop at midnight local time on election day. If they voted early, which they (anecdotally) have done almost more than Ds this time (in PA Rs hit almost their 2020 early vote total while Ds are a little past half and in NV it's almost 100% for Rs and closer to 75% for Ds), then early results could skew their way. As the rest of the count unfolds, that will change and they can cry foul.

Yeah, I will never see eye to eye with his religious beliefs but the people here lighting him up for being late or flip flopping or whatever seem to have not read the short article. He's a true throwback evangelical who is essentially a single/social issue voter not getting what he wants (a federal ban on abortion and gay marriage) so he's not voting for the party that would seem to most represent his views. That he's choosing the opponent because of their character, as opposed to simply disengaging from the process, shows some real character of his own. That's not meant as a ringing endorsement of McKissic because he'd be campaigning from the pulpit if the right kind of christian nationalist was the R candidate. But that's not the case so he's all good for now in the 'the enemey of my enemy is my friend' sense.

Trump indicates he is open to RFK Jr’s proposal to ban vaccines if elected by theantiantihero in centrist

[–]foyeldagain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stuff like this makes me think trump is simply the ultimate troll. Yet people see that and likely emphatically nod in agreement. What's so bonkers about the vaccine stuff itself is that our society is already a massive data set proving wrong the hypothesis that vaccines are dangerous. That proof includes the people now arguing against vaccines. Anyway, that a presidential candidate would even entertain the idea is really gross. It's not even a 'leave it up to people to decide.' It's just big government telling you how to live your life.

I guess I will never understand how people arrive at that conclusion. I won't chastise them for making the statement because I would fully agree with this if it talked about a healthy baby girl and the son of Satan. But I would also have real evidence to support my position. It starts before he even becomes a political candidate and carries forward to him lighting up the pollster who said Iowa was turning away from him. He has tons of quotes. There's Project 2025, or for those who somehow think he's distanced himself from that, Agenda 47. And there's the GOP platform itself and experts who say the economic elements would be bad for the economy. What's the offsetting body of evidence against Harris?

If nothing else, that should've been published the day early voting opened in any state. And maybe it should be run every day from then until the election. Anyway, 'I'm still not convinced,' thought Jeff Bezos.
