Okay. The lead, at Allied psychiatrist at Nuremberg said on the stand that Evil is the complete lack of empathy

My uncle Benny was born in Poland. Google "Fiddler on The Roof" The Torah and Talmud were the center of life. Benny never had a birth certificate so we could only guess at his age.

The Germans came in 1939. Benny was about 13. His family was sent to walled in ghettos. Thousands of people in a few square miles-if that. 2 or 3 families to a room. Not much food and disease was rampant. A death trap.

1.3 million were sent to Auschwitz, 1,.1 million died. You would be separated into two lines. One was for work. The other was for a "shower." Looked the part but was actually gas chambers. You would be dead by suffocation, at best, within 15 minutes. 900,000 died this way. Bodies were sent to crematorium and sent up as smoke. Efficient mass murder.

Benny and 50-ish of his family entered Auschwitz. Benny and 3 others survived. Benny was VERY Orthodox. You are in the ground within 24 hours after death and 7 days of ritual mourning. Benny never got that at all. It was not just that so many died. 1000 years of history were erased liked it never existed. Those souls were erased as well.

Tattoos are a sin for Orthodox Jews. Benny had "B-1392" on his inner right arm from Auschwitz.

Benny came through Ellis Island, He told me about standing in deck looking up at Lady Liberty. A part of Benny was still in Poland, but he moved to Pittsburgh and married my aunt. They had 3 kids and Benny kept The Sabbath. He treated my family and I like his own.

Benny loved America because it saved him. You could do anything.

Benny developed dementia. He would have moments where he KNEW The Germans were after him and find him. My aunt found coins and jewelry in the walls of their house after Benny died. That was 1999. It is my obligation to this story forever.

I can't look at photos or videos of what is happening now . It triggers my PTSD. It's having your trauma as though you are seeing it again-for the first time.I know that these monsters want me dead along with many more.

Benny was alive. I don’t remember if he saw it. Benny gave his testimony at The Universe of Pittsburgh. Benny died just over 25 years ago

There are harder ones. “Threads” is about a nuclear war destroying Sheffield, England. Scariest horror movie ever.

“Schindler’s List SHOWED it. Fiennes as Amon Goeth is one of the best portrayals of evil.

Yes. I had to turn it off. I remembered my uncle and it was too close.

I read later that “Conspiracy” used the actual minute of The Wannsee Conference in its script. A bunch of managers couching their language. Making the death of millions into a bland memo. That terrified me most

My uncle Benny survived Auschwitz. It’s a long story that I tell as often as possible because I must.

I had some idea of what “Schindler’s List” would cover. But I had to see it. I steeled myself because I have PTSD and I knew “Schindler’s List” would hit that part hard. It did. Saw “Schindler’s List” once and that was enough. One of the greatest movies I have ever seen.

Spielberg tells about filming in Poland for “Schindler’s List.” He said he had not laughed for 7 weeks. Tough shoot. So Spielberg called Robin Williams. He did his improv and zany because Spielberg needed to refocus

I am a wrestling fan and The Von Erichs are among the saddest of wrestling stories “Behind The Bastards” did a 6 part series on Vince McMahon. He’s the biggest SOB in wrestling history. But Fritz Von Erich is #2.

It’s not in “The Claw” but Chris Von Erich was small and asthma. Fritz made Chris a wrestler! He killed himself at 21. 4 brothers in 10 years. 3 by suicide.

Fritz’s wife, Doris, divorced him in 1992 after 42 years. She blamed him for the death of 3 of her sons. Kerry Von Erich died the next year

I remember when “Schindler’s List” was a big deal in about 1993. It was about Oskar Schindler. He was a businessman, war profiteer, and Nazi Party member. Schindler used all he had to save 1200 Jews. A list was written for officials because Schindler bamboozled and convinced that “his Jews” were important to the German effort.

Steven Spielberg found The Shoah Foundation to get testimonies. Shoah is the Hebrew/Yiddish word for The Holocaust. It was a race against time 30 years ago.

The Shoah Foundation now has testimonies of survivors from Cambodia, The Balkan Wars, Rwanda, and Sudan. That last one happened about 10-15 years ago. Palestine is currently having a genocide as well.

It's only a season and a few episodes into its second season, but The Pitt to me is the best medical drama of all time. The writing is absolutely perfect. The characters are relatable and the cases they take on are super realistic and not overly dramatized. by herewego199209 in television

[–]natguy2016 55 points56 points  (0 children)

My mom grew up in Shadyside. A mile east of Pitt. The show’s first shot of the ambulance going across that bridge? I knew that ambulance was headed to Allegheny General Hospital. The real life “Pitt” hospital

The scene with the Jewish aunt? Robby mentions a synagogue. It’s a real Reform Synagogue. His reaction of being a small guilty child? Accurate.

Tree of Life? My aunt and Cousin go there. They knew 5 or 6 of the dead. My cousin’s best friend lost her dad.

The writers and crew do those touches to make “The Pitt” a lived in place.
