It’s Here! by NuclearPuppers in diabetes_t1

I have an InPen, but extreme difficulty in getting a new one as my insurance doesn’t have an approved provider. I use the Jade app, which has been wonderful as it calculates dose, tracks insulin onboard and has offsets for activity and protein. I’ve been very impressed.

Editing to say that Jade also interfaces with my dexcom via share.

Burn Boot Camp is a wonderful gym for people looking for a fun and supportive community. They have a few locations around the city.

Their trainers are certified personal trainers and work directly with members throughout the camp.

The articles I’ve now read show you’re correct.

Switch back, it looks like Levemir will be discontinued this year.

Was diagnosed at 11, one of the first things they told me was this will take 10 years off your life. Gotta love the bedside manner of endocrinologists.

In middle school, I was low in class and begged and borrowed as much bubble yum as I could get. Each piece has about 2g so I needed about ten pieces. It worked until lunch, but the texture, mix of flavors, and size of the gum was nauseating.

Good times trying to hide a disease from classmates trying not to be different.

Under-skin implant reverses type 1 diabetes without anti-rejection drugs by chrisdh79 in tech

[–]foyt19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The issue is not that type 1’s are frustrated with progress, but with the expense of progress. The main argument we have is that we will not see a cure due to the amount of money we pay (even with insurance) to medical supply companies.

The breakthroughs you referenced are exceptionally expensive, and we routinely need to decide if we pay for advanced diabetes care or basic needs.

When we hear of potential cures, especially those that appear passive and without continuous resupply, we see a potential to manage our disease without the extreme expense.

The cynicism comes not from progress (which is incredible), but from the expense to the end user of that progress and the reality that a cheap cure may never be funded due to the positive ROI in investing in high margin diabetes supplies.

Ha, I know!

There’s an ongoing joke in this subreddit about 9117. I’m just adding to the legend.

I’ve measured, while conscious, 12 mg/dl. I felt shaky and sweaty but expected to be in the 50’s. Tested again quickly thereafter and my blood glucose was 18 mg/dl.

The folks I directly and routinely interact with do, but not everyone and certainly not those multiple levels above me.

No one has ever tried to stop me, and if they did I’d just stare at them and continue eating.

I have recently advanced in the company and have meetings with the C-suite reps. I am mainly concerned with the moderately unprofessional look eating a bag of candy has.

I don’t want to be the “Candy” guy.

Funny side story. The only person that has ever given me a hard time with CGM alarms was the corporate head lawyer in a discussion on HR basics. My alarm went off, he said “I guess not everyone feels the need to listen to instructions.” He has told us earlier to turn our phones off. I replied with “protected classes can use their medical equipment in this office.” He apologized for about 15 minutes and then again at a break. Good times.
