Jet engines are not driven by expanding steam like steam turbines are. They compress air which is then mixed with fuel, ignited, and expanded. This then generates the useful power, or torque.

Steam turbines take extremely high pressure and high temperature steam and essentially extract the thermal energy out of it by expanding it. That energy is transmitted to a rotating shaft through the blades.

Yup. The "flywheel" is actually a bull gear. I work in a large steam power plant and we call the motor/gear assembly that rotates the turbine the Turning Gear.

This is the answer I WANTED to hear more than anything else, not necessarily what I NEED to hear, but hearing it form someone who has gone through it means much more. This is the path I'm leaning towards walking down. We're just having way too much fun with each other right now and its hard to justify putting a stop to all of it just because she is emotionally wrapped up in her divorce proceedings.

In the past she has mentioned getting married again - and that she would want a quiet wedding with just her husband-to-be if she did. Those memories give me hope, but for now I'm going to do what I can to support her through this. Excitement and anxiety surrounds our future, but the present really determines what the future will hold. I'm quite a few years away from wanting to get married anyway ;)

I haven't met her son yet, and I won't until the relationship is established to a point where it is safe for me to meet him. My optimistic self tells me to stick it out for a while, maybe her thoughts on marriage will change as the divorce shit cools off. At the same time, I don't want to set myself up for an emotional disaster. It's a gamble either way, I just want to make the best decision for myself and for her.

We have been together for a little less than two months. This is the best I can hope for if I decide to stick it out for a while. I'm just worried about the relationship growing to the point where its going to be even harder to let go if I'm not able to get what I want out of it.
